That there are persons that feel that long-term survivors should not share their life experiences with others....

because then they are (wait for it....) GLOATING!!!!!! What???????????????

I don't know about you all, but I CELEBRATE each and every piece of news that my sisters here share that show that their lives are returning to 'normal'....sigh....wow!

I also was in the trenches, too....as you all know...lost my hair, 65 pounds, and my ability to digest milk products. AND from the treatment to save my life now have the bones of a 90 year old woman...

The only gloating that I may do, at least my intention, is against the beast...I have stared it down twice!!!!

Hugs, Kathi

    Bring It On!!!!!!!
I wish all of us the opportunity to join a Long-Time Survivors board! I think there should be a yearly or perhaps monthly King and Queen of Gloat~ sorta like Homecoming Royalty! There should be honorable mention gloaters! Gloat Awards should abound! Bring on the competition! I want ALL of us to try and out-do the other on longevity coupled with quality of life!

Any questions?????? Didn't think so! LOL ( as my Reggie wouold say, Chen has her grrrrr on today!)

I for one like to hear from long time survivors because it gives us all hope for a better future. It's sad when someone has a recurrence or has bc metastized to other locations. We are all here to share our experiences and to get encouragement any way we can. I hope no one ever thinks we're gloating. Heavens, I think we're all glad to be alive!

    Gloating my a**
Who could possibly make their mouth say such a stupid thing?? It's not gloating - it's CELEBRATING. Anyone who's survived for any length of time has a right to celebrate or gloat or dance naked in the streets if that's their choice. I know I love hearing about long time survivors. It gives me something to aspire to, and lets me know there are others out there cheering me on to do it too.

    ?
I don't know where you read that Kathi. I dont' think you read it on this bc board. And, if you did, I certainly missed it. I have never seen anything even close to that discussed or even alluded to here. The long term survivors have always been helpful and offer encouragement. And, for the ones that don't post anymore, it makes me know that they have moved on with their lives and are happy and living life without cancer.

The only sad part is when they get mets. Hate reading that :(

Pray for all of us daily!

    Life Stories
I love hearing how all are doing and dealing with the beast. I am amazed daily hearing all the trials and tribulations each one goes through. Those who's journey is difficult and sometimes short just reassure there is hope. I try not to mention my journey since it was so short and not so difficult, but, I still deal daily with not knowing whether the beast will ever raise it's ugly head at me again. To those who have difficult and long journey's I bow to you.

    What???
Maybe the person who said that is very lucky and has never had cancer and doesn't know about the initial fear, the fight, recovery and the happiness of being a survivor. Or maybe this person is bitter about something. I don't think it is gloating at all. When I've been scared, it's the survivors, with their experience, who have given me hope, help me think that I can survive too. On the other side of the coin, I have a rare cancer which I've been fighting since 1987 and I guess it makes me a long-term survivor. At that time there wasn't much information about this type of tumor, even some doctors had never heard of it. Now there is information around but before that, as a survivor, I was able to help those that were newly diagnosed, who were scared and thought it was the end of their lives.

What would we do without the survivors who give us hope and information? I was here in the breast cancer section a few years back and I am very grateful for the support I received from the survivors I met here, who helped me calm down and held my hand.

    That's Insane
This board can be depressing at times, and it is the long term survivors that lift the spirits of the entire board. If what you're doing is considered bragging or gloating, then keep on doing it, 'cause it's workin' for me!!!
