My Father is Having New Scans

Tomorrow my dad has new scans to see if the new chemo he's taking is doing any good and whether or not the cancer has spread to any new areas. Please say a prayer for us. As many of of you know, testing to see what the "beast" has been up to is so very scary!

For those of you that don't know the background...my dad was diagnosed with stage IVb EC in March of this year. It had spread to several nodes and the liver at the time of his diagnoses. About a month ago, it was discovered in his spine. He has been on a new chemo for about a month.

He's doing amazingly well. He still can eat without any problems and still goes to work 4 days a week. His weight has remained steady after initially losing about 20 pounds when he was first diagnosed. He's doing lot of alternative stuff, which we believe has helped him remain stable and strong.

Your prayers are much appreciated!

Blessings,
Sally

    new scans
    Hi Sally,

I hope that the new scans will bring a new communication to you from your father. Time is of utmost importance and I know how much you want to be included. I have been praying that your father will open up and share with you and your mother his wishes and needs.

    God Bless you all,

    Linda

    Sally, My prayers are with
Sally, My prayers are with your dad as he goes for scan today. I just spent an anxious week waiting for pet scan results after a seemingly bad ct scan. Today I am celebrating--all is well! I understand the feelings these test give us. We will be praying for another celebration when your dad's results come back.

Sally I am praying for you
You don't know me Sally but my husband has had the recurrance of the Beast and has started a rigorous chemo treatment. I know your dad can fight this. We all have to be aggressive fighters and get thru this.

    Many prayers

    Your Dad
    Hi Sally,

It's uncanny but my story is very similar to yours.

I was dx stage IVb in July with similar spread to the liver and nodes. So far I have been able to work four days a week as well. I just had another CT Scan Wednesday. I've completed four rounds of chemo. I agree that it's scary waiting for the results but my outlook is "it is what it is". I thank God for each day and for the excellent treatment I receive at MA General. As you are well aware, upon diagnosis your whole life changes and the cancer treatment becomes a new reality.

I will pray for you and your dad's recovery.

    Scanxiety!
I feel for you and sending prayers your way.

Since my dad was too sick for chemo, about 2 weeks ago he got a CT scan. It showed the chemo wasn't working and he now has mets to the lungs and more in the liver. He still is able to work full time too.

I think Dads especially have a hard time sharing the news about their cancer. Mine told me he feels like he is letting us all down and is worried about my mom being okay. They have always been the strong providers caring for the family and now face that they need to be the ones cared for. A tough pill to swallow.

Are you and your dad getting together to watch the game on Saturday?

    Take Care,
    Deb

    Thanks Deb!
It's great that your dad can talk to you about his worries. Wish mine would! So sad to watch someone you love go through such an ordeal so alone. But that is how he's choosing to handle it, so I'm trying really hard to respect that! (Not easy!)

We're gonna try to watch the game together. Not sure if he's up for it. Haven't heard anything from them yet. I usually wait and let him call me. If he doesn't, I know it's because he'd rather be by himself.

Boy...it's gonna be a tough game tomorrow! Hoping they can pull it off!!

Thinking of you and your family as well. Glad to hear your dad is doing well. I was a little nervous for you all after I read your last post!

    GO HUSKERS!!

    Blessings,
    Sally

    Good News!
My father's new scans came back as unchanged. All things considered, that's great news! Nothing new has started and nothing old has gotten bigger. So...he is continuing with his chemo.

Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers!

    Blessings,
    Sally

    Hello Sally
Glad to hear of your dad's recent scan results. That is good news. Communication is key in any relationship. Let your mom and dad know how you are feeling, how it upsets you that your dad does not communicate well. Once he knows this, he may open up and discuss all of his feelings with you. You can also start writing a journal. This will be very helpful for you. Ask dad if he is willing to write in the journal as well. Sometimes it is easier to write down our feelings than it is to speak them. I will continue to pray for you and your dad to have a better relationship. Peace to all of you.
