Officially nice to meet you too. You have a hula certificate? I have a bellydancing cert! they're both great exercise but, since they stole part of my colon and small bowel a couple of months ago, I'm not doing much dancing!

    hello!
    Hi Amber,

I'm so glad to see your post today:) Your sister Cindy wrote to me saying she thought you and I have a lot in common and for me to reply to your post. I guess you must have also had an earlier post, but I couldn't find it, so glad to see this one from you today. :)
I was dx'd in 8/07 with stage IV colorectal cancer w/ mets to both lungs and the liver.
I'm still here today and feel like I'm going pretty strong!
Your sister had read in my bio that I had been to Nashville, so thought I had been to Vanderbilt like you are going. But, no, I haven't been to Vanderbilt- I went to a private practice dr. there, Dr. Cantrell, for a specific off market treatment. I was all excited for it, but it did not work for me. I live in so. Calif and get my treatment at San Diego Cancer Center in north San Diego county.
Buzzard (Clift) on the board has been to Vanderbilt many times- you might want to compare notes with him re. doctors, treatments, etc.

I'd like to exchange PM's (private messages through CSN). So, check your messages & I'll also give you my email address there.
Hang in there- it's definitely a rough thing to go through, but so helpful to talk to other people that have been through it and truly know what you are experiencing.

Hugs and looking forward to talking with you more-

    Hi Amber....

I am so sorry you have to be here, but I'm also glad because you've found a very important place to be as far as education and friendship goes. I couldn't have done it without these wonderful people and their support.

Good luck with the trip to Vandy. I've heard wonderful things about it.

    Hugs,

    Holly

We have discussed many topics on this board so don't ever feel like you can't ask away. Again, welcome to the board.

    This is a great site
    Hi Amber,

My name is Liz. I was diagnosed a little over 3 years ago with colorectal cancer stage 4. I have had chemo, radiation, surgery more chemo and more chemo and still have liver and lung mets, but I am still here and basically life is very good. I have worked through it all except for 3 months during and after surgery. Like I said this is a great site to find information, support, and comfort. Good Luck....you will do fine.

Thanks to all you wonderful people for reaching out to Amber this way. We are just getting started and don't know what to expect, especially me. I am so ignorant about this stuff but I want to learn and be helpful to her. Really appreciate the willingness of so many to help and words of encouragement. Keep em coming!!!

Cancer is a family disease; Amber has the physical aspects, but you both have the emotional. Please remember to take care of yourself - take time for yourself. You'll be better able to take care of Amber if you continue to do for you.

My husband has been by my side through every step. I've encouraged him to do things he likes, to leave me alone for a few hours, and now that I'm in remission, for a few days (camping and the like.) It makes our time together even better.

    Hey Sissy
Hey Sissy, Will be thinking about you on your trip to Nashville tomorrow. Don't forget to take your list of questions, and don't be shy about asking her anything you want to know about. Have Bam jot down info so you can recall it later. Looking forward to meeting up with ya'll in Memphis on Friday night and having some good family time. LU

Get off I-65 North at 209B Demonbraun and Broadway then turn left on Broadway and down til you hit 21st street......stay on 21st through campus area til you find Pierce Ave then turn right...go down to South Garage on the left and turn in just pass the crosswalk about 50 feet...punch the green button for a parking ticket and get it validated before you leave the hospital...free parking that way...walk out the way you came into the parking garage and turn right to the crosswalk, Vanderbilt Ingram cancer clinic will be diagonally across the street...go through the rotating entrance doors and walk straight ahead about 50 steps and turn left inside a waiting room where you will check in..they will give you a pager that tells you which lady to check in with. I think R-4 through R-12 from Rachael to Jennifer. This is for insurance and also Drs name, billing address etc. Then you will take your pager and go directly across the hall and into the other large waiting room. When your pager goes off again there will be an aide looking for you at the desk. They will take you back and get vitals then into Emily Chans office...You will not have to wait long for any part of it. They are very prompt about being on time with appointments, and very good at what they do...there will be coffee and condiments for free for you and hubby...

When you leave the hospital and are leaving the parking garage take a left and go to the bottom of the hill to the stop light and turn left...Stay on that road and it will take you out of there and back to 440 to Knoxville and also to I-65 South towards Huntsville/Memphis.....or ask the attendant where you are heading and he will get you going........and last but not least, this journey is a basket full of small victories won to get to the big prize. Listen, learn, and educate yourself about your case, then concentrate on small steps at a time...rarely are there major wins in one swoop, but small steps and small battles won to reach what we all desire, remission, stability, and inner strength...They are all within you, you just have to believe in yourself.......Love, Hope, and safe travel tomorrow and forever for all of you, Clift

Remember, when you have God with you its a winning situation anyway it goes...and I know you do....you simply have to envelope that thought around you constantly, its the calming effect that will keep us sane through this as well as protect us......... :)
