i Take 6 a day was taking 8 but the hand/feet sight effect got too bad so my onc reduced it to 6 a day. Eat with the med or you will be nauseous. Also makes me very very tired. When do you start?

Hello Hello, from Louisiana. I took 6 pills aday, 3 in the AM and 3 in the PM. Everyone acts different with the stuff.
I had left arm pain with nausea and vomiting.
The hardest thing was to take the pills when I was feeling sick at my stomach. Sometimes I would delay them a bit until I could ease the nausea. I found Zofran, Benadryl and ABH cream to help the nausea. Even with all that I still had problems with nausea.

    xeloda doses
Don't be surprised if the first round gives you enough side effects that they reduce your dose the next time around. I started out with 7 pills a day and then they reduced me to 6 pills a day, now I am on 5 pills a day and it is working out much much better for me. My worst side effect was the hand and foot syndrome. My hands were extremely dry, but my feet got almost sunburned red color and I developed painful blisters on my feet along with almost cracking from dryness. A couple of days, I could just barely walk, my feet were in such bad shape. My face also became very sensitive to the sun. Fatigue was also an issue.

Now that I am down to just 5 pills a day, everything seems more manageable. My hands and feet are still dry which I treat with lotion. Now my feet are just peeling several layers of dermis but at least they are not painful anymore. Looks like I might lose my big toenails again but oh, well. Do take Xeloda with a full stomach, I have heard a few stories about bad nausea if you take it on an empty stomach. I haven't experienced that yet myself but don't want to find out.

Another person I know has almost no side effects but her dose did get reduced for another reason, I think. Don't get too disappointed if they reduce the dose. I want it over and done with but the doc said that if I am going 40 mph or 70 mph that I will still get to my destination but maybe not as quickly. I understand her point but I wanted to fight this with as much firepower as I could get. Now, though, my side effects are so much better that I almost forgot that I had cancer, I am glad that she reduced my dose.

I happen to also have a palpable lump on my breast as well as a spot on my hip. My treatment with Xeloda, Herceptin and Zometa have reduced the lump from 2 cm x 3 cm down to 7mm x 9mm in just 3 months. Something is obviously working! Waiting a few more weeks to take another pet scan and hope that it diminishes down to nothing so I can stop the chemo for quite some time. I know that I am incurable but I would like it if it can be held off as long as possible. Wish me luck!

My wife almost died from this drug. It caused her to become septic - she was in the hospital for 11 days. Of course a lot of people have good results. Please be aware of the side effects and do no overlook any - especially fever and temporary loss of memory.
