I have a question for those of you finished treatment. Do you still have discomfort from liquids and foods that are really hot or really cold. My dad said that really cold stuff and really hot stuff cause his tongue and throat some mild discomfort. Is this normal at a couple months post treatment.

Thanks!!!

Kathy

    Very normal

This was very normal for me. cold was better than hot, but not much. I just ate and drank things at room temp and it seemed to get better after a few weeks. Can't really remeber how many, maybe 8?? I now drink coffee and eat ice cream and it's been 6.5 months post treatment, so i can say it gets better...
    keep eating

    Hot and Cold...
    Hi Kathy,

I had the same problem, but it has just about subsided in the last week or two (I finished treatment August 12th).Cold was always easier to tolerate. I am back to drinking coffee after a 3-month hiatus.

    Hi Kathy
5 years later and I still like things at room temp. I don’t like very hot food; normally wait for it to cool down just a little, I hate when someone puts Ice in my water. One thing I do like and I am able to handle now is spices foods, yes I love my peppers, just can’t eat them late at night

    Dad is the same
He never like hot spicy foods before this, now he loves them.

I use a straw for anything
I use a straw for anything that is hot or cold or spicy. I only had radiation on one side of my mouth so the straw keeps it away from the damaged/sensitive side. I drink coffee, wine, soups, etc. using the straw.

    5 months out
I'm still bothered by very hot liquids. I just let them cool a bit. I put cream in my coffee now, as it is too hot otherwise. Cold never bothered me. I preferred ice water throughout treatment, and still enjoy it now.

    Me, Too
at seven months out, I don't have many issues with cold, but can't do very hot. I can still have coffee in restaurants, but I often have to add ice to get the temp to very warm. I don't mind.
