My wife went in for a radical cystechtomy and we were in for 27 days due to complications. It was an eye opener for me and I wrote a short book entitled Medical Crisis What every Caregiver Should KNow http://www.amazon.com/Medical-Crisis-Caregiver-Diagnosis-Hospital/dp/145356974X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286823037&sr=8-1 NOt trying to sell the book here but this is what it says: Get a private room if you can affort it; become and advocate; learn everything that you can about the cancer; WRITE down all your questions and observations; Don't let the doctors go without having answers; Forget about how you as a caregiver feel and focus on your loved one; be demostrative in the display of your affections; Your observations matter; be polite but assertive; befriend the nurses and pull every bit of information that you can out of them. Hope this helps.
