My mom leaves ICU for Acute Rehab today

It's hard for me to believe that my mom is getting ready to discharge from the hospital today after the long haul she has been through. They removed her trach and she is breathing room air without any O2 support needed. She is able to walk about 25 feet and is doing better eating normally. She is starting to learn how to deal with the colostomy as well. Mentally she is pretty much back to normal except for a few delusions that crop up. Sometimes she thinks she is at work or better yet...She thinks I am having an affair with THREE MEN! Like I have all this time on my hands while she has been practically dying in the hospital! It makes me giggle.

Because her mental state has been blurry, we still haven't really talked about what she has been through. I think she has a general idea that she was unconscious for many weeks. Her mood has gone from "flying high" to depressed and now fairly normal. I recognize she is many weeks behind the rest of us in dealing with her diagnoses and treatment. She completed 4 rounds of Cisplatin while in the hospital and will now have a three week break before beginning the Taxol/Carbo mix. So---we have a window to get her to rehab and get her up to speed. I think she will even be able to return home if things go well. Her CA-125 has dropped in response to the Cisplatin. I think the oncologist said she is down to 190 already. It has been a truly amazing ride and at times my head feels like it might burst.

Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers. I really believe that my mom's story is a true testament to how a very bleak picture can radically change for the better. I never realized the power of the human body and spirit before this.

I'm so happy for you !
This is wonderful, thank you for sharing with us. It gives me a boost thinking of how dire it looked for your Mom and her progress now. She must be a very special lady to fight so hard to get back to her family. That is so funny that she thinks you can multi-task so well to juggle three boyfriends !
There is a Gilda's Club in Buffalo in case you are interested. I have not gone there yet but plan to in the future. It is on Delaware Ave.
Best Wishes to you and your family !

    Wendy, your mom's story
Wendy, your mom's story would make a great made-for-TV movie. I am nothing short of amazed. I know you are, too....and delighted, of course.

An affair with three men, huh? You are one energetic girl!
