I will never forget that
I will never forget that day. Hubby and I were in bed on vacation. My Mother called to see if we had seen the planes hitting the towers. We turned on the tv and couldn't believe it, still can't when we see the pictures.

I was a 3rd grade teaching assistant here in Evansville. It was time to walk the kids down for their gym class and another assistant whispered in my ear that the first plane had hit The World Trade Center. Who knew what lay in store? Of course I hurried back to the room, told my teacher, turned on TV just in time to see the 2nd hit, UNBELIEVABLE. To this day I can't put into words exactly how it felt. I know I immediately thought of my family - son at high school, daughter at middle school, phoned my mom and sister, and prayed for everyone including my brother who had his business on the 16th floor of the NBC Tower in downtown Chicago. You know rumors were rampant, including one that said a plane was headed to Chicago.
The next day, while ALL air traffic was grounded, I was on playground duty and saw a very large jet with NAVY jets off each wing, heading from east to west. It had to be a presidential jet, either Air Force One or Air Force Two. Then I spent the next few days teaching my class Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American". For a long time we would sing all or part of it every chance we had.

I was a brand new transplant
I was a brand new transplant to Boston from the midwest attending grad school. It was the first week of classes. Glorious day. On my way to chapel I called a friend and he said, "Thank God, are you OK?" It surprised me and I asked, "Why?" He said there were reports that a plane from Boston had hit a building in New York City. I hadn't heard and he was so thankful to hear from me. I went to chapel and as the events unfolded, people came running in, telling us what was going on. I headed down to the house that I was living in with a bunch of women and we sat in disbelief and watched the towers fall. It gives me chills to this day to think about it. New York City and Boston had always seemed so far away, but here I was living out there, surrounded by people who knew people either on the plane or in the towers. I sat and wept with them over the shock and horribleness of it all. Campus was close to Logan Airport and it was eery the next couple of days because you didn't hear or see planes. I will never forget. May we never forget.0 -

I work for USAA, the largest building in San Antonio, Texas. It's been compared to the Pentagon in size. We service the Military and their families.
After seeing the devastation on the news, we actually thought we had a good chance of getting attacked. Huge building full of people servicing our military. Praise God we didn't but everyone walked around heavy-hearted and in a daze...unbelievable!

I was talking to my mother-in-law on the phone that morning and she mentioned it, almost in passing it seemed to me. She asked if I'd heard about the plane hitting the tower. I thought she meant some kind of small commuter plane or something. So I got off the phone and went downtown to the grocery store. It was while I was in there that I realized it was something much more serious. We're a small town and the radio was on in the store as usual. I rushed back home and turned on the TV in time to see the second plane hit and to watch the towers fall. I spent the entire rest of the day watching the coverage, too stunned to do anything else. I find it doubly heartbreaking that less than ten years after that horrific day, we have a president who felt that WE were the ones who needed to apologize to the very people who celebrated in the streets on 9/11. Whatever else he's done, I'll never forgive him for that.0 -

I have med training I got a call to stay put in NJ. I would have been in the towers, I lost the partner I had at work because of the planes hitting the buildings. It was strange .Then i was doubly wierd when the let the planes fly again.0 -

I will never forget that day. I was home with a migraine from work. I seen it on the news. I called my husband at work. Then I called the clinic were I worked. And my sister. I couldn't take my eyes off the T.V. I was in disbelief. I still find it hard to believe. Prayers for all that lost their life and their families. God bless America Kay0 -

I was at home with my then 6 month old baby Camryn. We were sleeping in & my cousin/best friend Nicci called to tell me what was happening. We were talking on the phone & watching TV when we saw the 2nd plane hit.
At that time, Tim was did not have his own sign company, he still worked for the one that his uncle had founded. His position had him travelling across the country -overseeing the sign and neon overhaul of several Target stores through the country. The night before, he had flown from Chicago to Los Angeles for an LA Target store. He was supposed to be there 2 days, then fly home. He ended up being stuck in California for a week or more. He couldn't even get a train back home...luckily, Tim's dad lives in CA, he lived in San Diego at the time. UN-luckily, though, his dad was on vacation in Australia at the time. Tim ended up getting in contact with some of his dad's friends who were watching the house & cats, and Tim at least got to stay at his dad's house until he could fly back. Of course, being a new wife & mom, I didn't want him stepping foot on another cross-country flight.
There were rumors in our town of other attacks, talks about stocking up on gas & essentials..I was scared. My brother and his girlfriend & their toddler daughter came & stayed with Camryn & I until my husband came home. I pray we never see another attack on our country like that. God bless.

The tv was on the the waiting room of the hospital I worked at and my first thoughts were that my son was in high school only 4 blocks from the world trade center. I panicked, I couldn't reach him, there was no phone service at all, I called my husband and we decided we would drive to NYC and get him. Of course, that didn't happen, the roads were all blocked to the city and so it was the longest morning of my life.
My son finally called at about 1pm and he said they let the kids out of school and told them to walk, just walk away from the smoke. He met his now best friend, Will, on that day and they walked home together which took many hours, they walked with many other people who were also stranded, no trains, buses, some people got rides from strangers in their cars but Dan and Will walked for hours until I saw his face at my door. It was a moment i will never forget, I was so grateful. We watched tv for hours and I cried when I realized how many lives were lost, beautiful young, old, all gone.

I had hurt my back at work (as a paramedic) and was scheduled to return to work that night. I woke up to somebody (work) blowing up my pager. On my pager I got news updates. I looked at the news and it said "plane crashes into wtc" I looked at it, threw it on the floor, went back to bed. I was lying there for about 3 minutes when it occured to me that "wtc" stood for "world trade center." Turned on the television and saw the 2nd plane hit. I headed in to work.0 -

I was in my office at work when my secretary came running in screaming and crying. Then, I could hear the tv in the board room very loud. When I went in there and saw them showing the planes hitting over and over, it just looked like a horrible movie. It is still unbelievable that this happened to this day. Amen to the statement made in your last 2 sentences! I'm not a real political person but I do have opinions. Several times now, during his brief tenure, our president - the leader of the free world has seen fit to apologize for our nations acts throughout history. Excuse me, perhaps during these difficult times our country is facing with our economy, we could demand repayment of all the "loans" we've made throughout history to aid and assist countries all over the globe. Not to mention the individual Americans who have been in every corner to give help from education, to health care, to fighting poverty.

I was getting ready for work
I was getting ready for work and watching Good Morning America. Charlie Gibson was to interview Sarah Feguson when there was an interruption and he said, something just hit the WTC, that was about 11 minutes to 9 am. He then said, wow it seems to be a plane and another just hit. I left for work and called my husband at his office. He had not heard anything at this point. I paid at the toll both, and the attendant said something really serious is going on in New York. I arrived at work about 9:40 am. My son Matt was in San Diego and called me. He said mom have you heard the news, please leave work, I'm concerned for your safety. They are killing Americans and you cant be sure they wont attack your place of work. I worked at the American Adventure Pavilion at Disney's Epcot in Orlando. I was on the top floor and worked at the American Adventure VIP lounge. At 11 am when the news was more clear everyone was commanded to leave. Disney rarely closes but they closed on 9/11.0 -

I was at work and had the morning news on. I thought, like a lot of others it was a small plane that had hit the building. I kept watching and it slowly started to sink in what was happening. My daughter was a freshman in college, she was about 45 minutes away. I talked to her she was ok. My son was a Jr. in HS at Crawford HS Crawford as in Bush's Western White House. We were hearing reports that Crawford could be hit, of course there were lots of rumors. They did dismiss school early because so many parents were picking up their kids. I made Jared come stay with me because I had to be with the family I could get there with me. Between Bush's ranch and being about 45 minutes and closer to different parts of Ft. Hood TX we saw a lot of air traffic. After that we always knew Bush was at the ranch because of the fighter jets.
Like all Americans my heart still breaks for all the families that lost loved ones that terrible day. It was a tragic day for so many. May God Bless us all

I was at home and heard about it on tv. I usually have the morning news shows on, but, don't listen too fervently, but, heard them say that a plane hit the towers in New York. I wasn't sure if it was a bad joke or not. Wish it had been a bad joke..
