Now beginning to get really antsy. I have a Pet scan coming coming up on the 20th of September. I had my treatment for laryngeal cancer last year ending on the 21st of June 2009. have had little problem since, for which I am really thankful, but now things that did not bother me 3 months ago now make me think, I had a chest and neck CTscan and brain MRI and all was clear, I am probably over reacting but am definitely a little scared. I have a strobeoscopy on the 23rd, not worried about that as the throat and voice are doing great. Denis

    Getting antsy...
I think everything you are going through now is normal for all of us prior to any type of scan. I know I'm fine until a few days before a CT scan and then all of the "what ifs" sneak up on me.

I will be praying for a clean PET scan.

    Stay well and stay calm,

    It is normal
It is normal to be nervous - it makes it even better when you get the NED.

Hoping Things Continue to Go Well
Yep - we hope we're just paranoid, but are irritated by our paranoia. Two weeks will seem like a long time 'til your tests, I sure. How long after testing will you get results? Sending you the comforting thoughts I wish I'd gifted to myself before my three month scans this summer. Do well.

    Load up on Anti-Oxidants
Hi Denis, know the feeling as am scheduled for PET/CT 28th September. My last was mid December 2009 after finishing treatment early October 2009. Jitters are normal especially from the time you finish the Scan till the results come in.

The only thing you might consider is loading up on Anti-Oxidants from a couple of weeks before your PET to help reduce any negative effects of the Scan from the Xray and the FDG. Also cut our all sugars a day or two before and follow the dietary instructions they give you to allow for a more accurate result. Drink heaps of water as soon as you finish the scan to help flush out the residual tracer.

I am wish you get the good news of NED.

    More Than Antsy
I was really nervous prior to my last PET which was my first annual as well... I'm not sure why other than I picked up a bug or something a few weeks before and that made my neck and throat really sore.

Anyways the PET came back clean and I was good to go.

One thing you can do to at least possibly give you some relief on the anxiety during the scan and your MD follow-up. You can request a copy from the facility doing it. I know that mine was available the same day they release it to the MD that ordered it, about three days after doing the scan.

So that gave it to me about a week or so before my follow-up appointment with the MD. They gave me a call and when I picked it up, they had the report and two CD's with the CT/PET.

It was written in enough laymans terms that I could read there was no evidense of disease and that there was improvement since the last scan as for swelling and healing from the radiation.

    Best,
    John

    Nervous
I'm like John. I had one pet shortly after treatment and ironically my next scan will be on the 7th of December. The day I first went to my primary care doc after noticing the lump on my neck was Dec. 7th, 2009. So I guess it will kind of be like 1 year for me. Really only 8 months post treatment, but I am already nervous.

Thanks all, I know there is over-reaction until I think what if, I have a sweet tooth so will have to lay off that stuff from here on in. Not sure when I get the results. The scan is at 10am and I have an appointment with the Oncologist the same day at 2:30pm, is it possible he will have the results by then? I feel pretty good for 66 and having gone thru a quad by-pass, a mild stroke and carotid artery surgery and the cancer all in an 18 month period. Still sucks though. Denis

    Know
that many of us are in your boat, Denistd. My one year PS/CT was in April, and I was a bit antsy about any return. Thing is- even if it does come back: you've been thru it once, so you'll be better able to handle it a second time; and, the getting of regular PS/CT, like we do, means if anything shows it will be early, and that'll make it easier for the Drs. to ace the second time. Of course, the second time ain't gonna happen.

    Antioxidants
Hi CB, good to see you back.

My list of Antioxidants is as follows:

    Vit C (2g /day)
    Vit B complex (Esp B12)
    Alpha Lipoic Acid
    Co-enzyme Q10
    Omega 3,6,9 EFA Fish oil
    Vitamin E
    Selenium
    Grape Seed Extract
    Ginko Biloba

Antioxidants scavenge free radicals and so help protect the body from such FR's we get from the FDG used in PET/CT and also from the radiation from the X-Rays.

While most Doctors say the PET/CT is not harmfull, it definitely is not good for you so my view is if we have to get them, do whatever to reduce any possible harmful effects.

    Scam
P.S. that's my little girl on her 3rd b'day at the zoo. We got up close and personal with the Tigers.
