Has anyone been told upon finding a "mass" that it might be scar tissue? We're waiting for test results, but wondered if anyone had ever been given this information by their doctor, i.e. scar tissue as opposed to tumor recurrence.....
Scar tissue is very common in the anal canal after chemo/rad. I have had numerous digital rectal exams as part of my follow-up care and have often been told by the doctor(s) that there is scar tissue there.
Did the dr say he believes its scar tissue? I know at my 6 month follow up my dr took a biopsy on the opposite side of where the cancer was, as there was a raised nodule there and it came out negative for cancer. My oncologist said that I have scar tissue. I hope that it is just scar tissue for your husband. I wish you and your husband well. Lori
Lori and everyone who responded to me about scar tissue: Thanks a lot for this info - gives me some hope that it might actually be scar tissue. The doctor wouldn't speculate as to whether or not he thought it was scar tissue versus recurrence. He just seemed very concerned. My husband's PET scan is today - biopsy and colonoscopy is in a week (we had to wait a week for the colonoscopy because my husband had taken Advil)......Anyway, will keep all of you posted. Thanks so much for the responses........very much appreciated!
Best wishes to your husband on his PET scan today. I'm having one today too, so I'll think positive thoughts for both of us while I'm lying there on the machine!
