I have been reading posts lately about those of us going naked and i want to also. Its not that im not becuz of what others might think, its more of what i think!

I would love nothing more than to be able to go naked before my road trip in September ...so that gives me roughly a month to do this but what do i do with it?
Right now its to short to do anything with but long enough for it to get messed up. Combing it with my palm or my fingers arent doing the trick anymore and it needs some serious styling...but ive never had short hair before so im totally clueless about what to do with it!
Its only about 1/2 inch long...so not much to work with.
In all honesty i thought i looked better bald than i do with this very short hair cuz i think i look like a boy and not a very atractive one at that...some people can pull this look off and do it very well...LIKE PINKPOWER...but i cant!

Any ideas for my hair troubles?

    Honestly jo jo, I didnt
Honestly jo jo, I didnt think I could either, Im still selfconscience about it believe it or not! I had long wavy hair down to my butt my entire life, at 40 I cut it up to my shoulders and donated my hair to locks of love, when I was dx at 41 my hair was already down my back. It has been very hard for me not having my hair. Though I did enjoy the wigs very much, I cant wait for my real long hair to come in. We are harder on ourselves then everone else. I started about a month ago by not wearing anything as soon as I got home from work. Eventually I did it at my moms house. Today as I sit at work, still feeling a little selfconscience but glad to let it breath. I live in Florida, it's super hot here. Hope my little tips help.

    Hair troubles...
If YOU don't feel comfortable going "naked", then don't do it until YOU are ready to JoJo. As you read on here, the sisters that took their scarf off or wig or hat, they were ready to mentally and felt very liberated. The time will come for you. It is kind of like the same advice you give for expanders....don't be in a rush. There is nothing or no one rushing you.

And, have you gone to a hair stylist to see what they could do for your hair? You might be surprised. Maybe, they could give you a sexy spiky look! You should go see one and at least talk to them. I saw a girl one day that had really short spiky hair, a beautiful face like yours, and, she had dark brown hair with blonde streaks in it. I loved it!

September is still a ways off for your road trip. I bet by then, you will be "naked" and loving it!

    The Distance Rule Applies
First of all - YOU ARE A PRETTY WOMAN!! I am sure you look great in your 1/2" hair. Some dangly earings and your smile are all you need. Also, it may be easier to go naked when you are away from your town and have little chance running in to anyone you know.

You could go to your salon and see if they can do anything with the style, but even if they can't, I'm sure you look GREAT!!!

    Naked
Jo Jo, they're right you're a beautiful woman -- your smile is gorgeous. A 1/2 inch of hair is probably enough for a good stylist to help you with. Make an appt with someone who specializes in short hair, or if possible chemo hair. Before my hair grew back my old stylist told me to come in for scalp massages (just cause it felt good) even if I didn't have any hair. Better than a pedicure.
September is a long way off. You may decide you're ready before then and maybe not. Going naked is only liberating if you're ready for it and by now we've all earned the right to do only what we're READY TO DO-- cause we've spent enough time doing what we had to do.
Someone mentioned big funky earrings, also try playing with make up to give yourself a dramatic look.
We're all here for you, whatever you decide to do.

you look great with your short hair. It's obviously so different from what you're used to but it looks great on you.

    I agree with Sue
You do what feels comfortable to you! We're not all the same. It's great to go naked, for those you feel comfortable with that AND it's great to wear scarves, for those you feel comfortable with that...same goes for wigs.

Do it for YOU. You're not trying to prove anything to anyone.

Be the beautiful YOU that you are ;D with whatever you choose.

    Blessings,

    Lupe...
When my hair started falling out i cut mine and also donated it to locks of love, all 17 inches of it. I bought a wig but never wore it just hats in the winter and bandanas this summer. Although i dont normally wear anything while im at home but panic if the boys come home unexpected. I go naked around my girls but not the boys...not sure why?
Im just glad you had the curiage to finally do it Lupe!

    Sue...
Honestly i am not as ready as i would like to be. Im just impatient to start looking normal and not like a boy doing it. and your right i still have time...at least a month!

    Bob...
I never thought about the distance rule...just dont know if i could do it till it came down to it.

    Marge...

    Not to push the point
but ask for an early morning appointment or late evening, whatever would work for you when there would be fewer people in the shop.
I remember the first day I went naked, after the work day (where everyone was totally supportive, except one co-worker who quite honestly pointed out that I still had a bald spot in back) I had to go to Barnes and Noble after work with my 14 year old granddaughter. It took about 10 minutes of walking around hoping to be able to find a book to jump into to realize that the only person concentrating on my head was me. At least if they were thinking about it they didn't let it show on their faces and after not running out in a panic (which believe me I thought about doing) I figured that was my "baptism by fire" into the world of naked.
You too will decide when you're ready.

Jo Jo it's a personal thing.
Jo Jo it's a personal thing. I had a hard time with my hair too. I wore a wig up until June. Mine was growing in, but I wasn't used to the short and sassy look as I have never worn it this short before.

This 'do was not my choice. Cancer and chemo decided for me. It's a process. You will know when it is time to toss wigs, hats, caps aside. There is no right or wrong in the matter. We are all individuals.

I had my hair cut about two weeks ago because it was growing in at different lengths. I was getting tired of the assymetrical look and went in for a trim. I have to say... my stylist did a good job. It's still short, mind you. I still wear sombreros when I go for walks or errands and caps when I go to the gym, that is my choice. In time, when I feel good and ready, I will do away with my sombreros.

I am glad to hear your hair is growing in. It's coming back, that's great! Go enjoy your road trip and tell us all about it! I can't wait to hear how it went. Take care, God bless.

You should check out a salon
You should check out a salon JoJo. Maybe, when you call, you could explain to them how nervous you are and they could arrange a time when you could come in and no one else would be there. I know my hair stylist would do that..she has for others.

And, I bet my last dollar that you look normal, beautiful normal, just with shorter hair than you want.

    I agree
I agree! You have a great smile JoJo. When you are comfortable it will be so easy to go naked. I plan on going naked at home and I bought a couple of hats today. I actually made appt with my hairdresser for her to shave my head 2 weeks after chemo. I haven't had long hair since I was 12. I had her cut it very short before my surgery so it would be easier for me to manage. No matter what you decide, have fun!

How far past chemo are you? I'm 6 months past and my hair is long enough to gel and spike. I just started going in public without my cap. About a month ago, I started taking vitamin E, 800 I.U. It seems since then my hair has really started coming in faster and thicker. Without the styling gel it looks awful and dull. So the spike look is what I'm doing now.

jo jo, to echo a lot of
jo jo, to echo a lot of others, this is truly a personal decision and you, and only you, can decide when the time is right. I was extremely traumatized by having to shave my head and I didn't have hair anywhere near as pretty as yours. Hang in and you'll know when it's time.

jo jo, I forgot to mention
jo jo, I forgot to mention what others have pointed out. You have a beautiful face and a radiant smile. Also Bob mentioned the big earings, that and just the right makeup helped give me a boost. With out makeup I feel like I look like a boy. Today is day 2 of going naked at work. Feel better and more comfortable then day 1. So far I've gotten everything from how wonderful I look, to shocked caught in headlights looks. And you know what, now that its happened, I no longer care.

Lupe Im so envious of you and Laurissa. You are both sooo beautiful on the outside and inside.
I am afraid for the first person that has a negative comment towards me with my hair once i do this, cuz i wont keep my big mouth shut! I really dont want to have to do that.

Thanks Lupe and Laurissa cuz you two were the ones inspiring me to do this...which is a good thing (not bad)...didnt want anyone to take that wrong since i dont have to curiage to do it yet.

    Enjoyed your pics!!
Thanks for sharing...you look fab! Beautiful family :D

I love to see pics of everyone...especially vacations pictures so I can live vicariously through them.

After I finished Chemo & Radiation and had my surgery ('07), I had scheduled a cruise for my daughter and I. It was a quiet year for hurricanes however as our departure date was getting near, so was one lone hurricane (I can't even remember the name), all I know was that the cruise ship and the hurricane were both scheduled to get to Cancun on the same day.

Needless to say, I had to cancel.

I still need to go for my BIG vacation celebration...one day soon.

    Blessings,

    Sylvia
