My OR report says high grade serous papillary. I seem to remember reading somewhere 'poorly differentiated' but maybe I'm getting confused with my nursing background. I seriously cannot remember!

Either way...is her primary cancer uterine? Don't panic and automatically assume it is a death sentence. My cancer, high grade serous papillary, is a very aggressive form of cancer. Most people respond to the inital treatment of Carbo/Taxol. Is Angela being treated at a major cancer center?

    Good luck!

Thank-you for replying. The report said "Undifferentiated/Endometrioid." I understand Endometrioid to be cancer of the uterius. They are meeting Friday to go over the report with Angela. They are planning on treating it very aggessively. The doctor believes he got all the cancer during surgery. I pray it doesn't come back. Linda

    Undifferentiated Tumors
They are referred to as undifferentiated, because their exact cell of origin cannot be determined microscopically. These tend to grow and spread quickly.

There is a clear relationship between platinum resistance and tumor differentiation. Poorly-differentiated tumors are significantly more sensitive to platinums than are well-differentiated tumors.

Single-agent platinum may be the most appropriate first-line chemotherapy for poorly-differentiated tumors. In contrast, Taxol resistance is not related to tumor differentiation. Taxol may be more appropriate for well-differentiated tumors.

The original American cooperative group trials of platinum versus non-platinum combination therapy showed that the main group of patients who benefited from platinum were patients with poorly-differentiated tumors. This has been validate by cell culture analysis.
