Just found out I have to have an ultrasound on my thyroid

I guess I just knew it when my doctor saw my TSH score of .04 and told me he wanted an ultrasound. I called the nurse today and she said that they do so an enlarged area on my thyroid so they are supposed to call me back today to set up a biopsy. Anyone else had this?

For daily bible scripture encouragement and prayer during your journey through cancer,
please meet me at the discussion board called ‘spirituality, prayer, and meditation’
located toward the bottom of the discussion board listings under ‘other’ and be blessed!

    I just saw endocronologist
Lorrie, I just saw an endocronologist on Friday because I had an abnormal Pth Intact blood test back in April. The dr compared all the blood work I've had done in the past year and thinks it was just a bad reading (a fluke!). He did an ultrasound in his office and saw a 1/2" spot on one of my thyroid glands though. I'm having a needle biopsy August 3rd. What else can go wrong, eh?

So sorry to hear about your new development. I pray that on both cases it will be nothing.

It is always one thing after
It is always one thing after another, isn't it? It goes without saying that I hope that this test goes well is a simple procedure, and requires no further testing or treatment!
I know you will keep us in the loop~ bless your heart!

thyroid cancer was my first type
in 1982 i had surgery to remove a lump on my neck, turned out to be thyroid cancer - all thyroid scans and uptakes came up within normal ranges. the cancer was a shock to all of us (my parents and my doctors).

had a second surgery to remove the thyroid, have been on synthroid since.

hope yours is nothing, will say a extra prayer for you ; )

heidi did they do a biopsy first
before they removed the lump?? I hearing of more and more women coming up with problems with their thyroids after chemo. Everything the doctors tell me is that there is no relationship between the two but you have to wonder.

Does anyone know if thyroid cancer can spread? A friend of mine said that it is usually contained in the thyroid kind of like prostate cancer but who knows? It is after 3pm and I still have not heard from the doctors office yet about an appt to do the biopsy. I am almost about to tell them to just take my thyroid out and forget the biopsy. I am tired of going through procedure after procedure and test after test...and the waiting is just the worst part of it. I just pray and ask God to get me through this and that it is benign but I know of some who had benign results and later on found out it was malignant. That is also why I am ready to just tell them to take my thyroid out altogether to be sure and just take medication for that. Mmmmmmm.....time for prayer. Please also pray for me as I pray for all of you. Be blessed!

Balentine and Char: Like Miss Heidi ... I too had the
very special pleasure of finding out that I had thyroid cancer - 20 years ago ish. Same medication as Heidi as well.

Prayers to all of you wonderful women, who are having difficulties with your thyroid gland. Please go onto webmd or another medical site, and see all the wonderful things our thyroid does on a daily basis.

    Good Luck ...:D

    After I finish tx

    Lorrie-

After I finish tx for breast cancer, I'm off to the endocrinologist, too. I've had thyroid nodules for about 20 years and have had them biopsied and used to have pretty regular ultrasounds. Used to see an endocrinologist, and have actually seen a surgeon, but my primary care physician decided to take charge when the endocrinologist left. That was about 7-8 years ago and nothing has been done except exams since. My thyroid levels have always been normal. There have been no changes as far as I know, but . . . Now that I've come up with both breast and endometrial cancers, I'm a little worried about what the heck is going on with me, so I brought this up to my oncologist a couple of weeks ago. We're going to follow up on it again.

Try not to worry too much about your thyroid. You've got enough on your mind. I'm telling you the above because (for me)I haven't had any cancer issues in spite of nodules for 20 years. I know that thyroid cancer is very slow growing and curable, so should your thyroid growth turn out to be cancer, medicine is on your side.

I hope everything goes well with your biopsy. BTW, it's not painful. Good luck.

    Thanks for your responses
and putting some fears to rest. I know nothing about the thyroid. All I know is my TSH level was .04 so my PCP said he wanted an ultrasound to make sure there was no nodules or goitres. They never did call me today with an appt so I guess I will have to go over there tomorrow to get one. This is the 2nd time I have had to call for test results instead of them calling me and now have to go to make sure they schedule the biopsy also. I won't worry about it since there is not much worrying will help. I am just praying and asking God to not let this be anything major. I really don't want to hear the word surgery again until next summer when I plan to do my breast reconstruction:) Be blessed.

Still have not heard from the doctor office
Well, I called again today and the nurse said I should get a call today for an appt with ENT and a biopsy but still have not heard from them. She said my thyroid is enlarged to about 3cm on the right side and that was all she could tell me.

I'm so sorry Lorrie that you have to wait. I have heard of relation to Thyroid after radiation but not sure why. My oldest daughter had thyroid cancer about 5 years ago and she know a lot about it so if you have any questions, I can ask her later today. By the way, they removed her thyroid and is just fine now. On the medicine the others ladies mentioned as well.
God Bless and please keep us posted.

    sorry for delayed response
lorrie, my experience with my thyroid was in 1982 - as you know, medicine has come a long way since then. so i did not have a biopsy, it was after the removal of the lump(they never called it a goiter) when the tissue went to pathology they found the cancer. had a second surgery to remove the thyroid (sub-total thyroidectomy) and like i said, am now on meds and now doing ok.

hope all works out for you too ; )
