Been tough road, but finally cancer free

Hello to all that might remember me and to those who have no idea who i am. I joined this discussion board when i was first diagnosed, but it has been months since i have been on. I hope someone remembers me!! I have been through hell and back, like most of us. Surgeries have been double mastectomy, port, chemo, gallbladder surgery, left tissue expander removed because of infection and total hysterectomy because of breast cancer spreading to cervix. I still face reconstruction surgery, but last week was given the news!!! YEP DANCING WITH NED!!! I feel so blessed to have my life. I am a warrior and a fighter. I won, i am a survivor. I feel I have a calling now to help those who are still in the battle. I want to be there for those who have just learned of their diagnosis and for those who have been battling for a while. In the past week, i have learned of two women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. One who didnt even tell her family or anyone she had it until she had to call for a ride after she got her port put in for chemo. I remember that feeling of being alone and scared and just not wanting to face it or believe it. The other woman is younger than me, im 36, and her bc has now spread to her brain. She has been in her fight for three years now. I have passed on my head coverings and hats. By the way, my hair is growing back so different its crazy. It used to be light and straight. Now its dark and curly. Crazy huh? I reach out to these two women and send them cards, notes and call them. I am also forming a team already for our making strides walk even though its not until October. I have 30 walkers who have volunteered already. For those who are just beginning this journey, keep a support system and fight. Fight hard and win. Know that people are there, like me, who you can reach out to. This board was such a big help and i feel horrible for being off so long. I just havent been well enough until now. We are sisters of pink. We are winners. We are fighters. We are warriors. We are SURVIVORS!!! Love to all my sisters, even to the ones who god decided shouldnt battle anymore.

    Dear Warrior Laura,
    Congratulations to you! How wonderful that you and NED are now together. I'm sure that you will do well with the upcoming surgery.

    I appreciate how you are helping others - they are very fortunate, indeed.

    Of course we "old-timers" remember you -- you and I were diagnosed around the same time, and joined around the same time.

    First things first -- girl, your $30 wig is HOT!

    Second, I don't want to hear you EVER apologizing for taking time away to take care of yourself -- my goodness, your body and your spirit have been through so much in the last year, taking care of yourself needs to be your first priority.

    As you can see, we haven't gone anywhere, and we're just so very glad to hear that you're dancing with NED in that sexy wig of yours!

    Ofcourse I remember you sweetie! I am very seldom on, and when I do log on, I am totally lost on here. It is so wonderful to come on and to read your great news!

    I am offering you my big congrats on NED! How is the dance? Pretty dang nice, isn't it? I finally got my dance with him in April of this year. Yep, had my mammo and ultrasound were clean! With this being my 2nd bout with bc, the celebration was even bigger than the one 24 years ago! lol

    You sure went thru a lot to get your dance, but, you have NED now, just dancing and swinging you around! Enjoy your long dance with him Laura!

    Congratulation on this awesome news! I remember you, and i have been thinking of some of the older members and wondering how they are. I have recently had a reoccurence, so i am back on chemo, and of course back here for support and information. My hair grew back black with grey, and curly. But, my curls did straighten out. I have to have my hair colored, though. Good Luck and enjoy your summer.

    Laura, I remember you, too!! I often wonder what happened to our sisters when they are gone for an extended period of time. But, I am so happy to hear that you are dancing with NED. It does sound like you had a rough go of it but being the fighter and warrior that you are, you are through surgeries and treatments. That's awesome!! Take care of yourself and check in here occasionally. Now, go enjoy Life!!

You have been through so much, you certainly deserve to have our NED twirl you and dip and make you laugh until tears run down your face!
