AN INTERESTING THING HAPPENED AT THE GROCERY STORE TODAY

I strolled in to buy a few things for our upcoming camping trip, well in the check out line I notice they had bouncy balls for sale for 99 cents, well I just had to buy two for my grandson's which I did. As I began to walk out I realized that one year old Ava would like one as well so back I went to get another ball. I got back in line and stood behind a lady who seemed a bit tired, we exchanged a few words about the ball for my grand daughter than it was her turn. As she checked out she mentioned she was taking chemo for cancer and was having difficulty concentrating (she seemed distressed) I told her I had had 28 rounds of chemo and 16 weeks of rads and am fine today and wanted her to know there is light at the end of the tunnel, she seemed pleased to hear this. She then gathered her items and headed to her car, I hurried and paid for the ball and ran to her car not sure what I was going to say not wanting to scare her. I proceeded to tell her about CSN and all the wonderfully understanding, supportive and loving people that are on this site. I told her how to get here and that she does not have to do this alone we are here for her. She broke down a bit as I did all I could to maintain my composure. I then reached in the car and gave her a hug, told her I was sorry this had happened to her but that there is hope. I walked away believing I had forgotten to get that third ball the first time around because I was meant to meet this woman. Unforetunately I did not give her my name or number because it all happened so fast. I do not know what type of cancer she has, I truly hope she will come here. If she does I know she will be greatly blessed by those who frequent this site. Just wanted to share what I see as being a "meant to be" moment.

Rena there are no accidents when things like this happen, that was definitley a "meant to be". I spent the last 6 1/2 weeks of rads at Hope Lodge in Tampa provided by the American Cancer society. It was a blessed experience, and I shared info about CSN with anyone who seemed to be interested. I feel as though I know all of you on these boards even tho miles separate us. We have a common bond and we help heal each other thru the physical pain, our emotional pain and any other pain. I am so grateful I found all of you.

It was nice of you to reach out
Rena, it was nice of you to reach out. I too believe every thing happens for a reason. I had a similar experience at a store and reached out to the lady as well. I think it was a good thing for both of us. We exchanged email addresses, but I didn't think to direct her here. I'll have to remember that.

I've reached out to others too. If the other person doesn't want to talk, it's usually pretty easy to tell and then I back off.

I agree with Natly that this
I agree with Natly that this was no accident. I am sure that you brought a ray of sunshine and hope to this lady. This truly is a magic place and I continue to be so thankful that I was led here. I share and recommend this site to those in need, too. The only thing that is somewhat disheartening is that it seems like there are so many newly diagnosed every week. I guess the positive, if you can call it that, is that there are support sites like this. Even better in my opinion is this one is filled with wonderful, wonderful individuals. Thanks for sharing this story with us RE and also thanks for being YOU. I, too, hope she comes here to be supported and encouraged.

I call occurances like these "DIVINE APPOINTMENTS". God used you to offer comfort, hope and support to this stranger. Even if she doesn't come here, He blessed her through your kindness. Hugs. Gracie

To the world, you may be one person, but to one person....
    You may be the world!!!

I believe that people are placed in our paths to guide us through. That means that we are also placed in other's paths. Usually, when this happens to me, not only do I affect the other person, but that person, me!

Hugs to a very wonderful lady!!!

    Hugs, Kathi

sounds like a divine appointment to me
Thank you for listening to your heart! This is no accident! I am glad you were able to give some hope and comfort to another 'C' sister. I pray for all of us daily because I know many of us wake up each morning with no one there to listen. Thank God He is always there for us and that He sends us to those who need a kind word or a hug. God bless you!

Thank you all for your kind words, I too was profoundly impacted by the impromptu meeting. To be honest with you all by the time I reached my car I was in tears and thinking of each of you. Thanks for letting me share what I believe was a special moment for both of us.

RE, we used to do God hunts: finding times that we were well aware that God was guiding our actions or giving us special blessings. This was one of those times!

I think Kathi put it beautifully. It sounds like that lady really needed someone to reach out to her and understand - you gave that to her. Bless you and bless her!

I know I feel a closeness to anyone I see going thru this and I'm sure all of you do too. We don't even have to have a ton of conversation with each other, just a hug, hand squeeze or look. It's like the motorcylc riders who extend their left hand when passing by another cyclist. What a good idea to give the info of this website.

This is a great post RE! You helped that woman in ways that I bet you don't even know.

I hope, if she wants to, that she comes here to get support.
