Hi Folks,

Have any of you been able to trust a begnin result after the first time with BC being told that and then finding out it wasn't? Just wondering I am 6 months out and a new tumor has appeared and I am having a hard time beliving that it is begnin.

Thanks for any information.

Love ya all!

Kim

I am a little confused here.
I am a little confused here. Did you have a biopsy and it came back benign? If the biopsy came back benign, I would be doing a happy dance! You definitely need to see and talk to your oncologist and plastic surgeon about this. Let us know what you find out.

    Good luck!

Have you had a core needle
Have you had a core needle biopsy or any kind of surgery to remove some of the tissue to actually check it? If I were you, you should discuss the core needle biopsy possibly with your doctor. They can cofirm then if it is cancer or not for sure. And, I think there is also a needle aspiration, which I didn't have, which is easier than the core needle. Cancer doesn't always show up in mammograms, CT scans or even MRI's. Mine was microcalcifications on my mammogram, which led to the core biopsy, which showed it was cancer. Is the CT all you have had done?

    No I haven't
They say there is no need for any further tests, They say it is begnin and they know it. I am just very very worried and don't know how to go about this.

The reason I question is because I made them test me the last time with a biopsey, and it was positive, even thu they said it was begnin.

Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

    If the biopsy tested
If the biopsy tested positive, why would they say it is benign? I think you really need to talk to your oncologist and surgeon to tell them of your fear and see if they can do more tests to verify that the benign results are for sure. You need peace of mind.

    I guess I don't communicate well
Yeah I have been through treatment the first time 6 months of chemo then a double masectomy. Now the CT scan came back with a Lymph node tumor. Like I said the first go around they said it was begnin as well but I made them biospsy it to find out that I was right it was not begnin. Now they say that they are sure but I don't know how to believe them.

    So, what are your doctors
So, what are your doctors basing the benign Lymph node tumor on? Did they take a biopsy of it?

You were right the first time and it saved your life! You should press for further tests, and, a biopsy of the node to be sure again. Sometimes a little voice in our head tells us something isn't right and that is what it sounds like you are having. If you don't feel confident in the benign outcome, if needed, get a 2nd opinion from another doctor.

I hope I am making sense. Is this tumor on the same side of your first bc?

    So, call your doctor today
So, call your doctor today and insist on seeing them ASAP! Explain that you are not only worried and concerned, but, that you are very upset and not understanding what is even going on. Jumping the gun isn't a bad thing if you are worried, which you are. You need and deserve answers and you deserve them now. We are talking about cancer and your life. And, you have already cancer once, so, your apprehension is very understandable. Please call your doctors to get into see them and let us know what you find out. I am worried about you.

Happy to help you in anyway that I can Kim. I love your picture too! Beautiful dog!

I think that you have every right to be concerned with your having had this happen to you before. I can understand that the docs feel comfortable with the results but they haven't had to live through the surprise of being wrong before. I think it is very reasonable to ask for a biopsy but they are not always 100% reliable either (which just makes things really hard). I do know that my oncologist does not favor the fine needle aspiration - she believes they are too unreliable. My daughter is a nurse practioner and has had three patients where the fine needle aspirations were wrong - two ladies had it done 3 times because the doctors did not believe they were benign and trhe third test came back positive. A male got a diagnosis of lymphoma on the first test and then found out it was cat scratch fever when he got an excisional biopsy done. If you do not feel reassured with the test results, I don't think there is anything unreasonabl;e in asking for a biopsy and I would explain to the doctors why. I hope it all goes well!

I would also ask for a
I would also ask for a biopsy of the tumor in your node. I don't know if they do core needle biopsy's in nodes or not, but, you need something to verify for sure if it is benign or malignant and a CT can't say for sure I wouldn't think. Good luck to you!

Chris is right, you do have
Chris is right, you do have a very good reason to be concerned and to want more proof because of what you went thru before. I think a biopsy would tell whether it is actually benign or malignant. You need to make them understand how scared and unsure you are.

I pray that everything works out to be benign.
