Had lumpectomy today

I had my sentinel node biopsy, wire localization, and lumpectomy today. WOW did it hurt when they put the dye in. It didn't hurt for long, just when the needle went in. After that, the day was 'cake'. The wire localization didn't hurt at all (and I thought it looked kind of cool just hanging out my bosom..). I'm not even really sore now. Just achy under my arm.

My sentinel node was CLEAR! Yay! My tumor was under 1cm. My BRCA results were in today, too.. all negative. After a month of emotional ups and downs, I really took a good deep breath and let myself feel good about today (although I'm afraid to let myself feel 'too good' for worry that something else will happen). My follow-up is next Friday, so I will find out about my treatments then.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice and encouragement you post for everyone. You all really helped me get through today. You all make such a difference in our lives by sharing your stories and advice! Thank you!

    Good for you
Sounds like yours was very similiar to my surgery. I thought the needle localization was interesting too. The dye injection did not bother me but I layed there for 2 hrs and it did not move!! It finally had by surgery. I too had clear margins and NO lymph nodes invovled!! Wishing you a good recovery! Let us know on treatments! God Bless

Glad to hear all went well. Sounds like you and I had similar surgeries with similar results. I am getting ready to start rads. Had my mapping yesterday and start treatments next Tuesday. They told me no chemo.

Hope next appointment goes well and don't panic if they say you need chemo, i did and mine was 11mm in size but i look at it its just something else to prevent any that are hiding! x

    Good to hear
Sounds very similar to me. Had a lumpectomy, sentinel bioposy, nothing in my margins and nodes. I had the onco type d test done to determine my reoccurrence level, since it came back low, I did not have to do chemo. Had to do six and a half weeks of radiation and five years of tamoxifen. Glad to report, just finished my radiation yesterday. I will start on tamixofen Sunday. Wanted to wait til after Race for the Cure which is Saturday. Best of luck to you. Keep us posted on your treatment options.

Good luck with radiation, I just finished mine yesterday. It wasn't bad at all my biggest side effect from it was being tired. Now I start tamixofen.

I had similar surgery and results. Since I ended up having two small tumors, that meant I had multi-focal disease which caused the medical onc to suggest the OncotypeDx test. Fortunately, the score came back low -- no chemo. I have 10 more sessions of rads left to go then Arimidex for five years.

    I'm happy for you,

    What great news
Your procedure and results sound very similar.I was so relieved that chemo was not necessary. I started radiation today. Only 20 more rad treatment days to go then five years of Arimidex. So much happens so fast. SO many decisions to make and so much to look forward to in our lives.

    Me Too!!
Had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on Thursday. As all of you, feel good just a little sore but soooo glad that the hard part is behind me. Looking forward to seeing my surgeon on Thursday for remaining reuslts. Then on to the oncologist. They think I will only need radiation. This board has been truly inspiring as I was also on that roller coaster during the past few weeks. Thanks!!

On all of your good news!

Jennsmom, how are you feeling now that a few days have gone by? I don't think I iced enough, my underarm area is really sore and bruised. I had a respiratory flare-up, so my ribs are sore from that too. BUT, it's over. I have been feeling a little weird today, like a let-down feeling. I can't decide if it's just having a chance to think about all this, or waiting for the next thing to happen.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and support!
