Does the doctor typically prescribe pain meds after chemo? Thank-you. I'm so worried. I start chemo tomorrow. Please pray it doesn't make me too sick.

    Pain meds not usually necessary
    Hi, Jannie -

Which chemo cocktail are you doing?

I did Taxotere/Cytoxan, and had meds for every conceivable digestive/gastrointestinal side effect (all of which I had, but the drugs really did work great), but I didn't need anything for pain.

Are you having the Neulasta shot the day after chemo? (Some women need it, some don't -- there's really no way to predict) Neulasta can cause bone pain for a few days afterwards -- mine, luckily, was just moderately achey, and I didn't take anything stronger than ibuprofen, though some women need something stronger.

Not sure if that answers your question -- does that help?

    Hi Jannie!!
The Dr does prescribe you medicine the day u get your chemo, atleast my moms did!
He gave her Ibuprofen for pain but that only helped for a few days, she had to get tylenol with codine but that was just getting her too "high" or atleast thats how she described it very dizzy weak and she felt like she was floating!...so they sticked to ibuprofen, 3 every 4 hours, they gave her lorazepam for nausea and anxiety that one really helped it even lets her take a nap, my moms reaction to her chemo was really bad, (dr said he'd never something like it before, which made it scarier) drink a lot of water! U dont want to dehydrate! and Bananas!my mom ended up in the ER for not drinkin liquids! do u know if you are getting a shot the next day to help your white blood cells? (neulasta) that one gives a lot of bone pain but you can get through this jannie!
i hope you have your familys support on this, dont be worried or scared i mean its only normal but walk into that Drs office knowing its for your own good be confident u can do it and dont loose Faith, and hope, everything will turn out just fine, no pain last 100 years, u can beat it!!

    Hi Jannie
I had no pain with chemo. You make sure your doctor gives you drugs for nausea. Sometimes as you have more treatment you may get some leg cramps. I did not need any pain meds for that. Aleve worked good for me. It's really the nausea you need to take meds for. Eat what you can and drink as much water as you can. Get plenty of rest and you will come through this just fine.

    Prayers.
The first chemo visit can be scary, since you don't know how your body will react. I will pray for you.

    Chemo pain
    Hi Jannie,
I had ACT and the AC part was mostly stomach upset, no pain. I never vomited or anything just a lot of gas and loose bowels. Anyone can do that right? LOL
Honestly not that bad. The Taxol portion came later 4 doses over 8 weeks and that did cause leg pain, mostly that aggravating ache that made it hard to sleep and I did get pain meds for that. But as soon as it was over, the pain went away.
Best of Luck to you. I know that I was so scared of chemo and it really was very manageable.
    Love,
    Wanda

    Chemo affects everyone
Chemo affects everyone differently. Just be sure to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. I drank sports drinks, as they tasted better than water, and ate alot of popcicles. Good luck and think positive thoughts. You have a wonderful support group of strong women on this board.

    mine did
Some of the chemo's can cause bone pain and the neulasta inj can cause bone pain.

I had a lot of pain with the neulasta inj. and my oncologist ordered me Vicoprofen.

I also had even worse pain. when I was getting the taxotere and neulasta,

EVERYONE is different and will depend on what type of chemo drugs you are getting and if your getting neulasta inj. I had neulasta after each one of my chemo drugs

hey Jannie, I hope it all
hey Jannie, I hope it all went ok for you. The first one is the scary one because you are so unsure as to whats going to happen. You never said what chemo drug there giving you ? You might find that a few days after your treatment you might not feel so well. Everyone is different, but we all got through it. Good luck

Hi, Jannie_, I hope you are
Hi, Jannie_, I hope you are feeling ok today. I had 6 rounds of TAC for my triple negative, stage 3A diagnosis. Lots of side effects that popped up along the way, but they were all manageable.

There is a pattern with many side effects. My husband kept a blog for the first couple of my rounds, just to see what my pattern would be. That way, when I started to get a sore throat, for example, in a later round, he could go back and see that I'd had that same symptom at the same time in an earlier round. His blog is under Aortus, if you'd like to check it out. Keeping a journal or even just a sketchy list will give you a reference for following days and rounds.

I made the mistake of not taking my anti-nausea meds as prescribed. As my sister, an RN warned me, nausea is like pain--easier to keep controlled than to get under control. Other than that, I had no nausea.

Whatever concerns or questions you have, you can find answers and support here. Using the search feature will bring up many earlier posts with useful info--believe me, Aortus and I came to this board many times for aid and comfort, and always got both. And please don't hesitate to post a new thread.

My best wishes to you, Jannie_. I made it through chemo, and you will, too. Hang in there.
