edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
I had gone in for my annaul checkup, pap, colonscopy.mamamgram the works. I was led to ask my doctor to run a CA-125, since cancer runs in my family.

As, soon as she got the results, and it was elevated, she placed everything on STAT,
intrvaginal sonogram, CT scan. plevic exam, the works.

When she got those results back, she called me and referred me over to an GYN-ONOCOLOGIST.
The first visit, he said I have serveral tumors, and would need complete hysterectomy.

I saw my PCP-on March 3,2010. March 30 I was having my surgery. He stated he removed 99%
of the tumors, and chemo. would kill the others cells. I was released from hospital April 6. and My next chemo is April 27th. he did a hot Cisplatin in surgery.

It has been a roller coaster ride in my brain and body. I now have an open wound, and just started anti-bodies.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired not only phsyically, but mentally.
Through a great place Cancer Center located at Medical City, Dallas, TX I came across
sites and information. My mother died from cancer when I was 8, but I remember her pain
and her tears, those will never leave me.

I am a 51 year old womand, married only 15 years, and have 5 of the best great neices and nephews ranging from 3yrs-7yrs. They are my reason to contiue to fight this battle.

I do have a fear of the unkown. And really trying to let go let God, he has been by my side through all this. And I know this for sure, from the strangers who have all told me I will be ok.

It is a blessing, to know I can come to a place where others know what Iam going through.
I have a good support team, but don't want to wear them out.

Dr. Ana Mercau out at Medical City, Dallas, TX is the new doctor I changed, for I was not
getting anywhere with my old one. He too! was just not listening.

Then she sent me to Dr. Alan Munoz Texas Onocolgy and God used his hands to cut away this
posion.

Well, my mind is wondering, God Bless everyone of you. Glennice

    WELCOME, GLENNICE!
Although we'd rather not have met you this way, I'm so glad you found us and hope you continue to visit us. This is a wonderful website - a great place to meet friends, others like you who know exactly what you're going through, and to find support, hugs and lots of valuable information! There are lots of absolutely wonderful women here!

I am also so pleased to hear that your PCP had the forsight to send you to a gyn/onc. They are much more thorough and know exactly what to look for a do in a situation like this. Now you have all that behind you and can move forward toward recovery and healing.

Fear is normal, so are all the other emotions that we go through during a time like this. Sounds like you have a strong faith (me too! and it's very important!) and lots of reasons to continue through this journey with hope and much to look forward to.

Allow yourself time - it will mellow out and you will be able to process everything. 'They that wait upon the Lord shall be renewed in their strength!' Sending hugs and prayers your way!

You are going to be just fine
Hello Glennice, I am pretty sure God used his hands. Be positive, and you'll see that everything is going to be just fine. When I was diagnosed with the cancer I started praying the Rosary again and asked God for help, and I guess he heard me (poor guy, his ears were probably hurting him because I asked and asked and asked for help so many times), but I am still here and that's what it really saved me. Now my whole family is praying with me all the time and thanking God for what he did for all of us. Good luck. Doris

    Welcome to our not-so-popular club
We're sorry you had cause to look us up, but glad you found such a supportive, informative site.

What stage did the doctors say your OVCA was? I had no symptoms until just before my diagnosis (and no family history). I was stage III c when it finally made itself heard. I have just finished 6 infusions of carbo/taxol and am officially NED (no evidence of disease), per my CT scan and blood work. My last CA 125 was 6, whereas before surgery, it was 4,000.

    Hello Glennice,
    Welcome to

    Hello Glennice,

Welcome to our wonderful discussion board it has certainly brought a lot peace of mind and answered many questions through the experiences of the ladies here.

If you have any questions, any... just ask and you will probably be swamped with all types of solutions and answers.

What was your stage cancer? Mine was stage 4. I feel the same way that God sent me to Dr. Ellen Blair Smith of Texas Oncology Midtown/Austin, Texas.

Again welcome and I'll be sure to keep you in my prayers.

    hello
    Hello Glennice,

Sounds like maybe your cancer was still contained to the pelvic area? Stage of diagnosis may be on your side! I've heard of hot cisplatin. Hopefully it will give you a boost in your treatment.

What type of cancer did your Momm have? Do you have other memories of your Mom? I have two young boys, 4 and 6. My greatest fear is that they will not remember me. Hard to imagine as I am the primary parent in their lives and they are so attached to me. I love them so much and the thought of leaving them terrifies me!

    Good luck with your treatments.

    Hot cisplatin?
    Hi Glennice,

Welcome to the board. I've been a member for about 8 years now; it's been a dependable place for me to get information, advice, and comfort. I belong to a face-to-face support group, also, and recommend you find one nearby. It's very good to sit down with other survivors of ovarian cancer and talk to them, even if you don't have the same experience under your belt.

I, too, wonder about the hot cisplatin. I know that when I had intraperitoneal chemo of cisplatin, it was heated before administration, as was the IP taxol, to aid the acceptance of it.

Are you having chemo? Do you have a wound vac for your open wound? I had one for a while after starting my chemo.

    Welcome Glennice
You've come to the right place. The survivors who post here are so warm and supportive and I gain strength from their wisdom when I'm low and get to pay the help forward whenever I can.
