My husband Paul was diagnosed with late stage esophageal cancer in August. He is 43 and I am 39. It was a shock to us. He had problems with acid reflux, but we were unaware of what the problem could be when the lymph nodes on the left side of his neck started to swell. We were hoping for lymphoma, but that wasn't the case. He went through chemo with Cisplatin, Arubicin (sorry if spelling is wrong), and continuous 5-FU. Great success the tumor was gone after 4 months of chemo, he did radiation and before he was finished he started having stomach pain. They did a CT scan and said it was an abscess on his liver. Two weeks of strong antibiotics did nothing and it grew. The doctor said he then believed it was cancer, because there had been a spot on a previous CT scan (the doctor never told us this before this conversation), so he wanted to start with chemo ASAP. We said OK. Paul went in for the large does on chemo and then was started on the pump. He had been having diarrhea and had no relief and after treatment he got worse. A week later his abdomen started to swell with fluids. He was admitted and finally I got someone to test him for C-diff (a bacterial infection in the intestines due to large doses of antibiotics) yup he had it and the fluid was drained. Luckily the fluid was not cancerous, but is due to the fact the liver is weeping due to the tumor. No we face the doctor tomorrow to see if Paul will be able to continue chemotherapy. I feel scared that they will say no and have looked in to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I'm not ready to give up hope on my husband, the love of my life, and the father of our beautiful children. Please I need hope. He has lost a lot of weight and is now on a morphine pack which gives him terrible hallucinations. I am also feeling disheartened with doctors. Why didn’t they radiate the area if they saw some thing and two why did it take me saying some thing for them to test them for C-diff.. He repeatedly told the doctor of the symptoms of this. I lost my Mom in October 2007 to Ovarian cancer was her care taker then and now facing this. I just want him to beat this thing.

First off we try to sign off with our name so we can get to know each other.

first off i know how you feel my Jeff was diagnosed at the age of 45, never been sick and thought it was his gallbladder after all test were negative i got persistent and thank goodness i did he was diagnosed with this thing we call the "C" word. he went through many rounds of Chemo and oh he was stage 2 not in lymph nodes, he had the IVOR LEWIS surgery in July 09 and spent 14 days in the hospital 12 of those in ICU, not due to surgery but to other complications.

He is doing good now, and goes to his oncologist every 3 months, for followup, along with a CT scan to make sure this ugly beast hasn't come back, as this is the #1 progressive growing disease.

It sounds like your husband is stage 3 or 4 and we have many on site that has stage 4, one is our lovely BAILEY1459 her husband is stage 4 and inoperable but has continued to work and go on with life, she will have to help you if this is the case.

Is your husband operable? What hospital or state is he going to be going to? If you give us a few more details we will have a little more to go on.

Hope is all well have that
Hope is all well have that and the prayers that everyone hear sends up.

It's hard to believe they didn't tell you about the area on the liver. I don't doctors do us a favor when they do that..

My husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 one met to a lymph node in August...chemo and six weeks of radation...for him it has worked so far..so far being the word.

I sure wouldn't hestitate to go somewhere else..if you can.

You have prayers the ones I say aloud and the ones in my heart.
