How do I find a therapist in my area. Going through alot of emotional stuff right now. Tried the hospital pyschiatist she just wanted to talk about meds and sent me to a therapist. Tried talking to therapist he said I was doing fine and propably didn't need help. (I stopped going to him) Now I am finished treatments and still depressed about my illness and my daughter's illness and need some emotional help and therapy but don't know where to get a good therapist. Once many years ago I went to a psychiatrist for something and she actually said "Well, we all have problems dear" I never went back to her either. I really want good help in sorting out a few things now and don't know where to turn. My hospital again?
thanks

    Your local ACS office or
Your local ACS office or Cancer Center may have referrals. I know that the bulletin board at my cancer center had announcements all the time about groups, etc. So, I would check there for starters. Even if you start at a group, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that one or more of the participants can recommend someone to you. I should think someone who has had Beast Surivors as pts would be better than a "generic" therapist. Other than that, if you attend religious services, does your church have someone you can speak with?

Thinking of you and wishing you success in finding the therapist you need and who will be a great match for you.

    ask you doctors
I agree with Claudia/Chen. You can ask you doctors : breast surgeon, medical and radiation oncologist, and primary care physician. I would ask all of them . Unfortunately you have to try to find out what/who will work for you. Finding a good specialist is a very difficult task, but if you find a good one you can stay with her/him forever. Your hospital probably has a support group and it is usually free, so you can check it out and stay if you like.
Good luck and do not give up, if you need help try to find it. Hope you feel better soon.
