Hello all!
My mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in January 2010 and from what we've been told and researched, she is staged about IIIC. Today was her first day of Chemo and though her spirits were up and we were able to laugh and joke with each for the 6hr period.... I'm TERRIFIED!! But I could never show it in front of her because I don't want her to see my fear!... See I'm 33yrs old and the youngest of 3 children and all my life she's been prepping me for what we call her home coming day party!... I just never thought or wanted it to be such a painful, slow process!... Now when you read this please don't think I've given up or lost hope??... I'm just doing what my mother has taught me to do for the last 33yrs and that is look at EVERY situation from EVERY angle and deal with it!...

    It's always a blessing to hear from the men in these situations. Being a 'woman's' disease we don't see posts from guys often, but when we do it's so good to know that you are taking such an active part in someones battle with OVCA, and how much you care.

    Since you've just started visiting, I can only say that the best part of this board is that you will find MANY encouraging and inspiring stories of hope, survival, and much information and support. Nonetheless, it is very normal to be afraid, unsure of the future, and confused as to how to help your Mom and what to do next. Sounds like your Mom has taught you well. It's good to see the 'whole picture', even though sometimes difficult. I would rather be informed and have all the facts so I can make good decisions.

    Let us know if there's any specific questions we can answer, something that might put your mind at ease. In the meantime, being there for your Mom is the best you can do. It is a journey, and the road is so much easier when you have a good support system.

    My 78 year old mother was diagnosed 3c in Jan 2009 and she is still very much with us! Every story is different, but I think you are spot on by looking at all angles, and trying to get a fix on the often meandering path of this disease. In my family, my siblings and I understand much more about Mom's condition than she does, which is great for her because she has a supernatural gift for denial. We do our crying behind closed doors, and spoil her rotten.

    Bring on your questions and concerns. It takes a team to weather these storms. When you need to vent, you can do so freely in the caregivers forum.

    How lucky your Mom is to have you on her team. You can gain a lot of insight into this disease and all the ways there to fight it by following the sagas of all the Teal Warriors on this site. I know you are scared. This is a scary disease and the statistics, etc. can leave you feeling terrified. I can tell you that I was diagnosed 3C in 2006 and I am very much here.... enjoying my sons ( one your age ), grand daughters, husband and all. Chemo is not for wimps and I can tell you that it's not easy for family members to sit by and watch it either. It sounds to me like your Mom has raised a wise and caring son.

    I am a 71 year old mother of three, with Stage IV, diagnosed in Mar. 2007. Sons are great nurses!!!
    Make sure your mother drinks plenty of water these first few days. The first dose gave me bone pain in my legs and I had to take a few pain pills which added to the constipation problem. That was the worst part and lasted about 3 days. Don't hestitate to call her doctor if she is having a problem. Sleeping it off was the best I could do. Saundra

    your strength at this scary phase of her journey.

    If you have any questions...many of the ladies here have been where your mom is going and it
    will probably give you much peace of mind for many of the answers we will be able to provide for you and your mom.

    Hang in there, be positive and learn as much as you can about this disease. I think the more knowledgeable you are about this disease, the less fear of the unknown you will have.

    Welcome and any questions you have and support you need we are here. I was dx in Aug 2006, and been on chemo off and on since. I am doing good and the chemo is keeping the cancer in check. Support, love and caring for your Mother are the best things you can do. A positive attitude from everyone is what helps us get through.
