Hey Gang
Well I thought I would shut the heck up about this rediculous bowel obstruction thing. Oh by the way, glad to see the board active and see we have some new members and welcome to you guys. Anyway you know my situation, here's the thing......since my release from the hospital I've not gotten rid of the horrible distention, now they've sent me home with a perscription for shots I have to administer myself which is suppose t o help with the distention. I've had a poop today, been farting but yet this distention is still there.

It's one thing to have this bowel obstruction looming over my existence but now with this other thing I'm always feel anxiety when all I'm doing is trying to stay focused and possitive. Also does anyone else feel tumors when they rub thier tummies? That's yet another horrible thing to deal with. Otherwise, I'm trying my best here to be keeping myself in the "today" mode. Love to all you guys. Oh the name of this injection I'm on (incase anyone wants to know) is octreotide acetoate.

Linda

    Glad To See You
    Hi Linda,

I'm so glad to see you back in true form it seems :-).

Sometimes we're so anxious to get back to our normal lives that it seems like it takes forever.

But we have to remember every little bit is still a step forward.

Love you and be sure to say hi to our girl.

    another question
    Hey Ladies
I ge t so angry when I'm trying to look up a drug on google. I can't find any answers to why I'm being given this drug. Nothing I've read makes any sense to me. Supposedly this was suppose to help with the distention, but the answers I get googling only get me all confused. Can anyone else help me with this, why would someone with a bowel obstruction and distention be given this drug? If you can help me I'd greatly appreciate it. I take this 3 X daily and I was perscribed a total of 96 of these.

    bowel obstructions
    Hi Linda,

It's hard to deal with anything else when you have a bowel obstruction....it rules your life! And, yes, I feel tumors when I rub my tummy, a lymph node near my pelvic bone that is there and which alerted me to my recurrance and "others" which are probably not there.

    octreotide acetoate
    Linda,
I found this on line regarding the drug you are taking in shots...it seems to be what you need.

    Unlabeled Uses
To reduce output from GI fistulas; for variceal bleeding; for relief of diarrhea associated with a variety of conditions; to reduce output from pancreatic fistulas; to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation; to treat dumping syndrome; to treat the following conditions: antineoplastic therapy, chronic pain management, decreased insulin requirements in diabetes mellitus, enteric fistula, gastrinoma (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome), glucagonoma, insulinoma, intestinal obstruction, local radiotherapy, pancreatic surgery, pancreatitis, thyrotropin- and TSH-secreting tumors.

Check out the part about irritable bowel syndrome with constipation.
Hope this helps ease your mind. Get well quick!

    thanks My Ladies
Thanks for the input. Unfortunately I'll most likely have to go into the hospital or something. The distention is pretty much like I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy. It is so damn uncomfortable. I thought that these shots I'm giving myself was to releive this. Anyone else suffer or has suffered from this type of distention? I know we all had this bloating before our surgery's, this is different. If you were to poke a hole in my stomach I'm sure I'd go flying through the air. LOL......seriously though......as I wadel away to the restroom. Love and hugs to all. Other than this I feel fine. Pooping like crazy, so we know it's not a bowel obstruction. I"m starting to hate that damn word.

    Fluid?
Linda, that's how my stomach was from the ascites that had built up before my surgery (it's actually the ascites that led to my diagnosis). Does your tummy sound like a ripe watermelon when you tap on it?

The ascites wasn't painful, I just felt very, very pregnant (without the bundle of joy waiting for me at the end of the ninth month). The docs can do paracentisis to pull the fluid out of the belly, but in my case, since I was having surgery anyway, they just did it all at once. Aren't I the lucky one? lol!

Anyway, I would assume that they would have checked it to see if it was fluid, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask just in case someone thought someone else had done it already.

Pooping is a good thing! I've come to appreciate my daily evacuations, both varieties, since coming out of surgery!
