2 Year Cancerversary

February 2010 is my 2 year Cancerversary
Though it still seems like yesterday
When in one brief passing moment
My life as then I knew it, just seemed to fade away

How can just one small 6 letter word
Cause a heart to skip a beat and take one’s breath away?
The beginning of a freefall into a pit of darkness
A time when you’re never quite okay

I still remember like it was yesterday
Trying to grasp the words, yet not knowing what to say
Hoping perhaps if I kept silent
The nightmare would somehow go away

Instead 2 years of Pink and Hope
Mixed with doctors, hospital and new scares
Even a second cancer
That caught me unaware

So now I don’t want to throw a party
Bake a cake or celebrate
Just want an end to cancer
How much longer must we wait?

So I will mark this day with silent prayers
For all who will read this and understand
Just want them to find the cure for cancer
And skip the Marching band!

    Ladydi, I say "Amen" to your poem. You have a beautiful way of expressing yourself. I know that in your heart that you know every day, every week, every month, every year is precious. I can understand why you wouldn't want to celebrate with all you've been thru. You're stronger than you realize and I'm wishing good things for you and praying that soon you'll be able to celebrate. Once we've had cancer its always going to be in our past but it doesn't have to take our future. Here for you and beating the drum for all of us. Again thanks for sharing.
