I'm FREE....my hair is blowing in the wind!!

I must say, I feel very liberated. I have been wearing head covers for 6 months and I am finally free!! I had my hair colored Saturday, 4 months out from chemo, and it turned out beautiful. It feels so good to have that part behind me. I was a little apprehensive this morning coming into my office without my scarf but I did it anyway. I jokingly went around and introduced my self as the real MyTurnNow. I said there had been an imposter sitting in my office for the last 6 months. It was just something to break the ice, so to speak. I have had nothing but positive response from everyone. It's very encouraging and the best part is my hair will continue to grow. So, to all you newbies just losing your hair or those who are not quite "there" yet, please know the day will arrive when you, too, can discard the head coverings.

P.S. Patti, I think you inspired me. Thanks.

    Way to go!!
It is liberating, isn't it?? I always find it easier to "break the ice" and comment on it first...relieves their anxiety if they don't know what to say!

Am glad to have inspired you!!

    Good for you!
I'll bet you look just great with your short hair. What a great way to approach the people at work who aren't used to seeing your "naked" head!

I look forward to joining the hatless/wigless/scarfless club in a few months - I hope I can do that by the time we go on our cruise in June!

I am so happy for you. What a wonderful feeling that would be.I am close but not quit their.Maybe in two weeks.I can not wait.I think part of it is kind of scary not having my wig on or a hat.But like you I will be so happy not having to wear it.Enjoy your new freedom. Pat.

What a great way to break
What a great way to break the ice and with a touch of humor. Happy that your results were so positive, both at the salon and the office.

    YEAHHHHHHHH
Wonderful feeling isn't it? I kissed my wig, hats and scarves goodbye 6 weeks ago.......My head is freeeeeeeee! I have a headful of "chemo curls.".........My hair was NOT curly before I lost it......did yours come back curly? I had really dark hair and mine came in dark in the back and silver on the top and sides.....weird combo.......had that silver taken care of right off the bat...This is the easiet hair "do" I have ever had.....I normally wear my hair short, not this short, it's about an inch and a half now, with the back being slighly longer......I wash it, put some product in it and away I go.....the curls have a mind of their own....my hair dries in less than 10 minutes, just like a baby's would.......it is so incredibly soft, too......I have had many compliments on my "new" hair.....I had my last chemo the end of August.....so it has taken 6 months to get to this point... I sometimes forget what I actually looked like totally bald......and I'm glad.....want to erase that memory.....So for all of you who are starting this journey, your hair does come back, along with your eyelashes and eyebrows......I lost the lashes on my left eye but not the right, that one just thinned as did my eyebrows.......So MYTURN, congrats on that new head of hair!
    My best wishes,
    Nancy

    You go, girl!
I had my first post-treatment hair color on Saturday, too -- so we had our hair done together!

My feeling is -- if we're going to spend all that money to get our hair done, then we MUST show it off, so good for you, MyTurn! Post a picture, if you can!

Hi, Nancy. No, my hair did
Hi, Nancy. No, my hair did not come back in curly. I don't think I'd know what to do with curly hair seems how mine has been pin straight my entire life. It came back in with more salt and pepper then I thought I had. But, in all honesty, I have been coloring my hair for years so I guess I just didn't know how gray I'd become. But, no more, I'm back to brunette and love it. Thanks for the good wishes.

    Thanks, Sharon. Your day
Thanks, Sharon. Your day will come, too. How long ago did you finish chemo? I think it's really just a matter of when you are comfortable sporting around in short or very, very, very short hair. I remember being on the jealous side of this fence, too (lol). Your turn will be here before you know it. Take care!!

    Hi, My Turn Now
I'm glad for you and I also can't wait for the day to put up the wigs. It's been almost a month since chemo ended and stubble is starting now. It's so slow growing back.

    Public unveiling
As some of you know, I've been going to work without my scarves for alittle over 2 weeks. Over the weekend, we went to a sporting goods store and I did not wear a scarf! I was a little more apprehensive going out in public as here at work everyone knows what I've been through so I just felt more comfortable. Anyway, got through that hurdle and it feels great!

Oh, btw, I just called my hairdresser to have her shape up my hair this week. Yep, the sides are wingy and need to be trimmed and evened out! Yea!!!

    That's great, Patti. I
That's great, Patti. I think the "public unveiling" is the hardest part. I had been going bald or with my stubbles since day one when I was at home. Even if someone came over, you got to see me in all my glory.....but only in my home. This past weekend was the first for me. Now, I can't wait to catch up to you and actually NEED a haircut. I think that's a while down the road for me. You enjoy it though, you have certainly earned it!!!

mmmm... the wind blowing our hair!
Yes, it's one of those things we don't realize how wonderful it is until we lose it. That's so wonderful for you, MyTurnNow. It has to feel soooo FINE. I sleep with a fan blowing on me, most especially since hot flashes. I have very fine hair on my head and can feel it blow from the fan. The other night, my son came in and stood in front blocking the fan to kiss me and I said 'get out of the way... my hair is blowing in the wind'. He cracked up.

ENJOY!! There is sooo much for us to look forward to enjoying even more than we did before!

    Hugs, Mar
