To wig or not to wig?

Since the demise of my hair, which coincided with the beginning of 2010, I've been wearing various hats and scarves to work, and usually get nice compliments on them.

I do have a wig, but it's not nearly as comfortable as the hats or scarves.

Well, I just learned that tomorrow the High Muckety-Mucks from our corporate HQ are going to be in town. Although all of the local folks know about my medical condition, and I don't care so much about keeping it a secret, I do want to make the right impression on these folks, some of whom I've never met. I'm thinking it will be less conspicuous to them if I wear the wig. On the other hand, since I haven't worn it yet to work, it may raise more comments just because it will be a "new look" for my coworkers. There's also a fair chance I may not even get the opportunity to be introduced to any of these folks and will be concerned over nothing.

In case it matters, I'm the Regional HR Manager, and usually dress pretty conservatively - pantsuits or skirts with jackets.

I just can't seem to make up my mind about this. I guess this is really more of a vent than anything because I know that I'm the only one that can make this decision, but just wanted to put it out there in case someone has an opinion.

Thanks for listening!

Cindy

You already know what I'm gonna say
...and you already know I'm gonna have an opinion! :-)

I would never have put on a wig or any other kind of head covering for anyone UNLESS that's what made ME feel most comfortable. If you feel comfortable at work wearing hats or scarves, then I say wear your nicest corporate muckety-muck suit with a lovely matching scarf, and show them that a woman with cancer is just as professional as anyone else!!

From one HR Manager to another,

    Cindy,
    I agree with Traci!

    Cindy,

I agree with Traci! Be comfortable. However, that may mean physically comfortable in a scarf, or mentally comfortable in a wig because of the expectations of the higher-ups.

I vote for the scarf, but, bring the wig to wear if you feel the need, then switch back to scarf when you don't have to deal with them directly. - Just a thought.

I always wear my wig at work. It just makes me feel better. Do what you feel most comfortable doing.

    Cindy, I agree with everyone
Cindy, I agree with everyone else, to do what is most comfortable for you. I, too, have had several introductions to professional visitors to my office and just wore my scarves with an appropriate outfit. By now, you are probably at work. Let us know what you decided on and how it turned out. I'm positive everything will turn out just as you wanted it to.

    Went with the hat
    Thanks for everyone's input!

I decided just be comfortable and go with the hat. Since I've only worn the wig a couple of times out to dinner I know I'll feel more comfortable with one of the hats I've been wearing to work (and getting lots of compliments on) that I got from TLC. It's a camel colored hat with a pink rose on the side, and I'm wearing a burgundy suit with a dark pink turtleneck, so I think it does look good.

I hate feeling hair in my face, which is whey I seldom wear the wig. It has bangs of course, and they just keep getting in my way.

After all that thought put into it, I probably won't even run into the Bigwigs today!

Thanks again ladies for your support!

    "Bigwigs" !!
Did you say that on purpose, Cindy? Very funny!

I know the hat in the TLC catalog that you're talking about, and it's a really nice one -- I bet you look beautiful in it.
