Would like to hear other replies
I would like to hear other replies. I went for a second opinion in Sept 08. I was Stage 3 RC at that time. I didn't particularly like the doctor I saw, Dr. Chan. The treatment for me at that time was the same as in Portland, Me. I stayed in Portland. Now, however, I have mets to the lungs and wonder about a second opinion. For now I am going to stay with my onc. Good Luck.

    Dana Farber should be great
My husband David is being treated at M D Anderson in Houston and from all the research we've done, any of the 21 National Comprehensive Cancer Centers are top notch. Dana Farber is one of these 21. You can expect a total team approach there with a team of oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, dieticians and any other kind of specialist you might need. I think you will be impressed. These comprenhensive cancer centers are part of a national group and if you google "comprehensive cancer centers' you can see which distinctive hospitals are in this group. Good luck with your search. You are smart to get second opinions, and sometimes third and fourth!

Wishing you all the best in this battle. The big centers see so many patients with the same kind of cancer and get to specialize so the expertise is amazing.

    Dana Farber

    hi

my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer Jan. 06. He did chemo and radiation before his surgery which was May 8 2006. He also had 4 months of chemo after surgery due to lymph node involvement. He had a wonderful surgeon at brigham and womens hospital in Boston Dr. Robert Osteen who unfortunetely retired 1 month after he did my husbands surgery. He referred us to a wonderful surgeon at Brigham and womens for his follow-up care. He did see an oncologist at dana farber but only for his first visit and then followed up at home in Dover,N.H. He has been NED since his surgery and we contribute this to his wonderful care at Dana Farber and brigham and womens. Good luck and please let me know if we can help in any way.
