Hi Betty,
Did not see your question on the board about my mentor till now. My cancer drs pick a survivor who had the same kind of cancer and things in common with you and assign them as a mentor. Mine is a wonderful 75 yr old lady named Mary who calls me and answers any questions I have about the surgery and her recovery. She was diagnosed 7 yrs ago and is completely cancer free now and the drs describe her as fit as a fiddle. She can eat a small dinner plate full and after all those scar tissue dilatations went on to recover very nicely. She had the same surgeon as me, Dr. Krasna at St. Joseph's now and it was the full open surgery. She had squamous stage III just as I did and did have follow up chemo afterwards. So that is her story and I keep her as my inspiration and also all the survivors like Wm Marshall in mind when I start to get down and know that as long as there are survivors out there we all have hope. By the way, Mary knows a 20 yr survivor going strong. prayers for all,
Donna70

    I love those stories.
I wish that those stories were out there like all the bad news was! I am so glad you have a mentor system. I also wish more places did that, and I wish there was a better group of folks here in Vegas for us to connect with.

Thanks for this post. It does give us all hope. It is wonderful news that these people are fit as a fiddle and still going strong! I think I will make all of you my mentors!

    mentors
    Hi,
Glad you all liked my mentor's story. The dr has asked me to be one too, but I asked if I could have another month of recovery and then I will be glad to do it. I am still walking around hunched over, boy those incisions are hard to stretch!!!! We also had an 80 yr old woman at my hospital who has gone thru the surgery and recovered well and had lung cancer too. So the stories are out there but we all know that it is not all happy endings here, but for those who fought so bravely, the rest of us have to fight and go on in their memories because that is what they would want us to do. this board is like a meeting place for all of us to have many mentors. Take care and prayers always for all.
