Anyone give THEMSELVES Neupogen shots?

I am getting taxol weekly now, and they are talking about me getting Neupogen (do I have that spelled right?) shots if my WBC drops any lower at Monday's labs. I can't get Neulasta because my chemos are too close together (they said chemos need to be 2 weeks apart for Neulasta). The Neupogen shots would be daily, 3 to 5 days after each chemo. For someone getting WEEKLY chemo, that's just TOO many trips to the clinic over icy roads. Has anyone ever given THEMSELVES the shots? I don't know if they would even consider letting me, but I'd sure like that option. I've never given a shot before; is it hard? Where do you inject yourself?

    I give myself B12 shots
I give myself B12 shots every other week. I use my thighs, but was told the stomach would work, too.

I have low WBC and RBC. I am taking shots for the RBC (also had 2 units of packed red blood cells this past week) but when I asked about the shots for the WBC, the nurse told me I would have to put my treatment on hold in order to take them, even though my infusions are 3 weeks apart. My cocktail is Taxol and Carbo.

    Yes depends on your insurance
Hi Linda, I have gotten these shots when on chemo that are close together also. Way back when ~ different insurance then ~ I use to do all my own shots but now it is only covered when I get them at clinic. So check your insurance coverage first as they are expensive. Pray this chemo is kicking cancers butt for you. Hugs ♥ Prayers Bonnie

    shots
    Linda,

Have not been on network for awhile but yes I give myself both Neumega and Neupogen shots. I give them to myself in the belly and you can tell where I have given them. Redness, but that is not uncommon.

I just had blood work today and went to my regular Gyn and he gave me my neumega in my arm as sometimes my belly needs a break!!

Since it is subq you should be able to give them yourself. Have them show you first, it is not difficult, and much more convenient then driving somewhere every day or every other day.
