John back in hospital

John is back in the hospital. When he went today in to get his feeding tube unblocked, they discovered that he had a fever. Dr. Scott came in and did give us very good news first. The final pathology report came back on one final lymph node. They got all the cancer out! But, he admitted John because of the fever and his white blood cell count is high. There is an infection or something somewhere. John feels fine. I left at 7:30 tonight when they took him down for a CAT scan. I am comforted knowing that this doctor does not mess around. I said with our luck they will release John in the middle of the 6" snow storm coming Saturday!!

Keep the prayers coming!

Thanks, William for the tip on John's dry cough. They may discover he needs dilation when they do the CAT scan tonight.

I was reading other postings and realizing, even though John is back in the hospital, he is very lucky. He has a great team of doctors and a great prayer team. And I have the support of people like you.

Thanks!

Lee,
Sorry to hear about John's fever, but thankfully he is receiving A-1 care. I am finishing up first week of chemo/radiation -- so far so good without any serious problems, just a little fatigue. If I can get in to see John today, I will. Please send him my good vibes.

It was great meeting you. John is still there. They started antibiotics yesterday. I told him it will take a couple of days to kick in. It is an oral antibiotic so I think once they feel they have it under control they can send him home with a script. Of course, I have to dig myself out of this awful mess here in Philly. Roads have not been plowed yet.

remember Layne's infection of his wound? You never know...and sometimes, getting those antibiotics in are just what they need to kick back into healing mode! Do keep us updated!

Hi Betty,
They started the antibiotics on Saturday morning. They did a culture of the fluid from his drain and then started them. Last night his fever went to 101 but came down after they gave him tylenol. I told him that it will take time for the antibiotics to kick in. They are running all kinds of blood tests, etc, but he feels okay, just tired. And he is still eating although he said the food there is awful. Our daughter braved the storm yesterday and brought him soup that the nurses could heat up in their microwave in case he could not stand lunch or dinner. I just have to keep saying to myself that he is where he needs to be to get this licked.
