My biopsy is today and I would be lying if I told you that I'm not worried. I have two areas of microcalcificaitons in clusters. A friend of mine who does breast ultrasounds said that "I would be concerned too" after I read her the report. So I'm going to work half day..praying that I can concentrate. Do I need to take something to help me relax? I've only had one friend who had one of these and she said for her the lidocaine didn't work and if felt like torture. I havn't heard that response from anyone else on line and I'm thinking it's just her. Thanks for your support and I will keep you posted. I REALLY want the results before the weekend. Is that resonable??

    My best wishes to you...
Everyone's level of pain tolerance differs. What really hurts one doesn't necessarily feel the same to another. I can only suggest you openly discuss your concerns - including the timing for results - with your medical team upon arrival, before the procedure even begins.

My best wishes to you today, with high hopes for the best possible outcome.

    Kind regards,
    Susan

    good luck
to you. I had no problems, a little lidocaine and it was fine. I had plenty of anxiety but everything was OK. I got my results the next day. Your milage may vary.

    Hi
I think that's what I had, chemo brain does not let me function as well these days - LOL. Anyway if that's what I had done, its not too bad. They put the needle in, which didn't hurt at all, then they suck some of the tumor out. It got so I would listen for the machine to rev up, then I'd brace for the burning which only lasted a few seconds. Unfortunately, my doctor waited a week to give me my bad results. I haven't said hi to you yet - welcome to the board. I am finished with my treatments and pray that your results will be the good one and there is no cancer. From finding the lump until the results it can be very scary. I am praying for yours to come back free and clear so you can enjoy the holidays with a happy heart.

    Hey
Welcome to the site! I took an anxiety pill before I had it done. They numbed me, so, I felt nothing. I pray that your results will be good! Update us when you know something.

    best wishes
Myshell, I'm hoping for the best for you! I had MAJOR anxiety about the SCNB and the doctor was a jerk, but it's over pretty quickly. I felt a little burn for the first lidocaine injection and not much else after that except for pressure. I got my results five days after the biopsy. They went to the wrong doctor. My doc's name was on the order and on the result page, but the imaging center sent it to her husband who is also a doctor. He phoned her. She told me I had cancer. I asked what kind (DCIS? IDC? IBC?) and she didn't know. It's the not knowing (what cancer? what treatment? How long?) that is the hardest to bear. Again, best wishes.

    Friend?
By the way, any "friend" who scares you with her horror story is looking for pity and/or attention, not trying to help you! I'd stay far away from that one!

Wishing you good luck today! Praying that it is not cancer. And, if it is, we are here to help you thru your treatment. They numbed me, so, I didn't feel anything. I was also very nervous, so, I took a nerve pill to help me to relax. Let us know your results.

    Biopsies can vary from
Biopsies can vary from person to person just as dental procedures can. We've all heard one person say they had terrible pain with a root canal and another had none. So it's hard to address the pain issue. I personally had none. A little stick with the lidocaine and that was it. I have had both stereotactic biopsies and an ultrasound biopsy. With the ultrasound biopsy, when the instrument used for the biopsy goes in there is pressue and a snapping sound as the pieces are cut(you do not feel any pain) If I remember right they go in at several angles but use the same small incision spot. They warned me about the sound because they said people are startled by the sound and jerking would not be good. For the stereotactic, they numb you and go in only once but still take several sample. They told me that it sounds like a sewing machine and darn if it didn't sound exactly like one. Neither one was a problem but if I had to choose which I preferred I found the stereotactic easier. It was easier to lie tummy down with my boob hanging through the table and having my breast lightly compressed than lying on my back but to the side with my arm above my head and them pushing that ultrasound wand all over my breast. But they are just as many people that prefer the ultrasound. Either one, they will get what they need. My results were back in three days so that can vary also. Like one of the gals said ask at the beginning of your appointment about something to relax you if you feel you need it and when the results will be back. As many have said I found waiting to be the most stressful part of all of this.
My good thoughts are with you.

Yes, it can be different for everyone. However, it will always be worse if you are tense and I too don't think your friend was doing you any favours by preparing you with downers! I found my core biopsies very easy..but if you feel a lot of pain...let them know.
We'll be thinking of you...keep in touch.

    not bad
The biopsy was not as bad as I thought. i was actually pretty comfortable laying there and the lidocaine worked very well. A little burning at first. The most startling part was when they inserted the needle (I guess) it did not hurt but I felt like I had been harpooned..I didn't know it would feel like a spear gun. :) but honestly it didn't hurt at all it was just startling for an instant.
Now the waiting continues ...:) I've been very busy at work and go back today..I guess that's good but honestly I wish I could just be home today.
The good news is because of my insurance they are sending the specimens to a quicker lab. And they were picked up yesterday. I would really LOVE to hear back by Friday at the latest. But it might be Monday...ugh. My surgeon said she would call me day or night.
What if I get bad news while I'm at work? That would kind of stink. God knows..and I know He's taking care of this and won't give me any more than I can handle!
    Thanks for everyones kindness!!
