At my last visit, my medical oncologist gave me a National Cancer Institute DVD called "Moving Beyond Breast Cancer." I've watched it several times, and I find it really helpful, so wanted to let any of you who might be interested know you can order it free of charge from NCI.

It's about a 20-minute video of mainly four different women talking about their experiences moving from treatment to survivorship. The women are ages 38-72, single, married, and widowed, so different life stages and experiences are well represented.

If you'd like to order it, the NCI Publications Locator is at https://cissecure.nci.nih.gov/ncipubs/home.aspx?js=1. If you'd rather not follow a link, you can just go to the NCI homepage, cancer.gov, and search "moving beyond breast cancer" in the search box at the top of the page.

Thank you for posting this! I ordered one also as that very same question has come across my mind frequently. How do you get beyond this?!

As I'm getting close to the end of my active treatment, this issue has become my focus and my fear -- this DVD from my oncologist was the catalyst, and I'm now looking at books too.

A couple of months back, rainbow4 recommended After Breast Cancer: A Common-Sense Guide to Life After Treatment, by Hester Hill Schnipper. I've just started reading it, and honestly, I'm now carrying it around with me wherever I go, keeping it by my bed -- I'm like the breast cancer survivor version of Linus and his blankie. :-) The author is a two-time breast cancer survivor AND an oncology social worker, so her perspective is so spot-on.

So you may want to check it out on Amazon -- and thank you, rainbow, for the recommendation!

I got this today and watched it. I have to say I was kind of disappointed by it. Everyone seemed so happy to have had bc and called it a gift. I will be anxious to see what others thought of it.

    Interesting...
Interesting, Diane -- I'll have to watch it again, because I didn't get that sense at all. Everyone was very positive, but I felt like they were pretty honest, too, about how difficult it is to recover and move on.

    Hmmm...
