ROLL CALL: Weekend before Thanksgiving plans?!

Well, ladies, I'm feeling a bit subdued today. Some of it has to do with that gov. taskforce guidelines on mammography. There are some good discussions about it over on youngsurvival.org if anyone wants to check it out. I started a (kind of depressing) thread over there about some issues with these guidelines and having hormone negative BC, if anyone wants to join in. Sorry I haven't been posting much this morning. I feel just a bit off. Anyway...

So, I plan to honor my mood without over-indulging in it today. No going out. Home after work. Make myself a healthy, modest dinner. Sink into a hot bathtub with bubbles and read. Get a good night's sleep.

Saturday, hopefully more healthy habits: personal training, grocery shopping, cooking. In the evening we are invited to a 30th birthday party that has a 1920's theme. What to wear? I need a flapper dress of some kind. Maybe we can have fun shopping for this on Sat. afternoon. And please, for the love of everything, remind me that I need not stuff my face with whatever high-fat concoction at the party -- no cheese-stuffed anything, processed meat products, pie, cheeseballs, or potato chips. Also, I don't need to drink like a fish, either. Please feel free to kick my a** on this one.

Sunday, I want a calm day again. Reading, planning, cooking, taking a walk at a local park.

So, now that you've heard my subdued weekend plans, don't let it deter you from injecting some fun and energy into this thread with YOUR wild and crazy weekend plans!!

Mimi

    weekend
My "exciting" weekend will start in a little over an hour with me going to my PCP for a pap test. Whoooopppeee! I've been bad and haven't had one for several years ... and since I started on tamoxifen a month or so ago ... the oncologists INSISTS I go. So that's going to be fun.

Then Saturday morning I'm meeting 4 friends for breakfast then we'll go to a Christmas craft show. Then Sunday I'll sit at home and watch the Indianapolis Colts win (!!!) their 10th game in a row (all fingers are crossed!).

I do have to share something about my Thursday ... yesterday. I work at Indiana University and we have someone here (Elinor Ostrom) who won the Nobel Prize this year. First woman EVER to win for Economics. Anyway ... I worked with/for her for several years and she is truly amazing and totally deserving of any and all honors given her. Anyway ... a few of her graduate students had a little get-together yesterday afternoon for her and I was invited. It was just so neat. I mean ... how often do you meet a Nobel Prize winner ... and on top of that have her yell across the room ... "Oh ... Teena's here!" And ... when she goes to Sweden to receive the prize the first part of December she'll be taking 2 people from her staff. And the one who is her personal assistant has been completely worried about not having any clothes to wear since many of the events are fancy-smancy... or at least require a dress or skirt. (Many of us who work in research areas and don't have to deal with "the outside world" dress mainly in jeans.) Anyhoooo ... I rounded up a few of my things from my "other life" (married) ... so it looks like some of my clothes will get to be worn at some of the events. How exciting is that?

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    hugs.
    teena

P.S. Almost forgot ... one more thing on my weekend list ... is to get my secret santa ornament boxed up and mailed off. I swear I'll get this done before 4th of July!!!!

I work with a lot of economists, too, and they would be so envious of your friendship! I also need to mail off my ornament soon. By the way, I received mine in the mail a few days ago. Are we allowed to reveal the sender? I LOVE mine. It's so me! Thank you. You know who you are.

    Forget em then
i say the taskforce don't know nothin, I think they pulled that info out of their butt. So forget em. You do what you got to do at the time of doing. Statistics are as good as the data that is used. Remember "garbage in, garbage out"?

So flush the toilet on statistics. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Lets see the spirit flow.

We shouldn't let them ruin our day, hour, minute.

I wonder why someone is stirring us all up.

I did hear that the state of Utah has always had these guidelines~ insurance does NOT cover mammograms for those 40 and under. Subsequently, 2 things have happened; they have the Lowest diagnosis of BC in the entire country and what else do they have? The HIGHEST death rate from BC as well! Hmmmmmmm, go figure!

Fight this one ladies~ as we well know, our lives are at stake here!

    Calm....hopefully!!!!
I'm getting my hair cut Saturday.
Sunday, going to the swap meet with my kids and Hans.

Nothing big....already bought my turkey...all 21 pounds!!!!! We are doing Thanksgiving on Friday this year...well, at least the turkey...since Hans' kids are with their mom this year. Strange...we were just going to have a small dinner on Thursday with my daughter and mom, and then maybe see the other kids sometime over the weekend. Fine with us...they were at our house last year for the 'big feast'. So, Hans' son's (girl)friend started the campaign to have us do Friday...We saw no problem, in fact, were figuring the kids would be relieved this year to only have one big dinner (their mom did the feast at her house on Friday last year). Not so!

So, I now have this HUGE turkey, and will roast it on Friday. Thursday, my mom and daughter will be over for steak and potatoes...lol....wierd, huh?

Hugs to all....mailing my ornament tomorrow....

    Getting ready for Turkey
Tonight it's BBQ ribs, blackeyed peas, and collard greens for dinner. Even better, everything's already made so we just heat it up when we get home and can eat in our jammies and get a good night's rest!

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut and doing my shopping for our Thanksgiving weekend trip (we leave early Thursday morning and I'll need to have my 2 apple pies baked on Wednesday night).

Sunday I'm going to an Open House for a good friend that owns her own cookie company (YUMMMMMMMY!)

An easy way to do a flapper
An easy way to do a flapper dress is to get a tank top and a matching colored straight skirt, black is a good color choice. Then go to a fabric store and buy a few yards of that swingy fringe in either the same color or a contrast. You just hand sew (tack it) to the neck line of the tank, then a 2nd row just above where the 1st fringe ends and as many more rows as you want. Do one row at the bottom of the tank and on at the hem of the skirt. Just do the front of the tank but do the whole hem line. Add some long beads. You can also get stretchy sequins on elastic and a fancy feather. Get enough of the elastic sequins to go around your head. Make a headband and sew or glue on the feather (it can do up or down). Easy flapper. The sewing can be tacked and then removed so the tank and skirt can be reused. Get some knee high hose for the rolled down stockings. You can even use a black eyebrow pencil and draw a seam up the back of your legs before you put them on and it will look like seamed stockings. Just a suggestion for something easy but cute.
Have fun and yes, no bad food, no excess alcohol. You can have fun without consequences.

    Weekend Fun!!
Well, we were suppose to be at an Elton John/Billy Joel Concert tonight, but due to illness on both of their parts, the concert has been rescheduled to February 19th. We've had these tickets for six months, so it is kind of a bummer, but we went to dinner and a show "The Men Who Stare at Goats". Funny show, a little crazy. I had wanted to see "The Blind Side" but it was sold out, so I guess that will be next week.

Not much else going on for the weekend. I think I'm going to get the hubby to write our Christmas letter and I'm going to start addressing cards. I'm having reconstructive surgery on the 16th of December, so I'm trying to get Christmas preparations done early.

Sunday, there will be church and the kids over for dinner. Before you know it, Monday will be here. Have a nice weekend everyone and find time for yourself during it. Connie

    weekend plans
Mine are simple, I plan to spend them with my husband who hasn't had a day off in 21 days! Job security is good, but so is sanity. We may just sit on the couch and veg or perhaps take in a movie.

Whatever you all do please enjoy yourself's, we have all earned a bit of joy in our lives!

My weekend plans were chosen for me:)
I had chemo cocktail #3 yesterday. My premeds are still allowing me to be up this morning. I have enough time to do the inspection walk though on the house we are movining into. Then, I will be back home, popping antinausea meds and sleeping for the rest of the weekend.

My only plans are to rest and hope I can get enough energy to enjoy family on Thanksgiving. I am a bit jealous of all of you that seem to be up and about. I wish I wasn't!

Yes, my ornament angel is Dawn! She got me the cutest, sweetest kitty ornament ever. That little cat is so much sweeter than my own grumpy kitties. Dawn must have known!

    Taste testing chicken soup!
Yes, I will be taste testing different kinds of chicken soup this weekend. I am taking antibiotics and nursing this cold and planning on lots of chicken soup and hot tea with honey! I am determined to make myself well for Thanksgiving! I do believe my plan is starting to work! Pammy

    You are welcome.

    Mimi
You are welcome. Hopefully it all came together and you are off to your party. I don't sew (except hand sewing and tacking stuff) but I do okay at putting this stuff together with glue, hand sewing, stapling. We did this type of costume years ago and it was easy and like I said if you buy a new tank top and matching skirt you have clothes you can wear afterwards. I also an good with aluminum foil, duct tape and cardboard. I can make a good robot, a knight's shield, a sword, and a quiver. I even made a pretend bow and arrow with a hanging file folder, yarn and electrical tape. The beauty of these is that they are enjoyed and when they are done they can be tossed. It's all stuff from around the house and minimal cost. Oh, and we do great masks. It's fun and JJ and I work on them together.
I hope you have a great time.
We just got back from helping the kids with their move. The house is so lovely and has been well maintained. They have the kid's room all together and Grandpa and I entertained them in there while they moved all the other stuff in. Our big dining room table looks just lovely in their home. I don't know if I mentioned it before but Denise did some nice faux finishes in several rooms and handpainted a peacock on one wall in their bedroom. She plans to paint a mural on the kid's wall. Since they share a room the theme is pirates and mermaids. JJ has always had the pirate stuff and mermaids seemed a great way to add to the room but give Baby Jo her own touch. I am going to post some of Denise's paintings on my expressions if I even get ambitious.
Hope everyone's weekend was safe, fun and happy.
