Well it's finally here. I'm having my 2nd treatment tomorrow. It sure seems 3 weeks is a long time to wait in between and I'm nervous... definitely not nearly as nervous as the first time, but I guess just a little worried that things won't go as well as they did the first time. I asked my onc if he thought the rest would go as well as my first and he said that usually the first is a barometer (odd word to use I thought) as to how the rest will go. I'm guessing I will always be a little nervous before every treatment.

Anyway... I was just wondering if anyone here has had urinary tract infections while on chemo. I am prone to getting kidney stones and have dealt with quite a few infections along the way. I just started up with symptoms today. Does anyone know if this will affect getting chemo tomorrow?

As always, I appreciate your input!

They should still give you treatment as I had a UTI probably the last half of my infusions. I was so worried when they told me I had one, but they said it wouldn't have any effects on the course of my treatment. Not great news to have a UTI, but good news to still be able to continue with treatments.

Good luck to you! I hope your second treatment goes well!

Thanks for your response. I was worried it might delay it. So onward & upward. Gee, I must've gotten up 6 times during treatment my 1st time. I don't know if it was from all the water I was drinking, from all the fluids going into me, or a combination, but this should be a blast today with having to go constantly and just a drop comes out. OH Boy... I can't wait!

What I've done just as a precausion .. is to mix cranberry juice cocktail daily with water for the past 10 weeks, no UTI or signs of one. Trying to keep my kidneys flushed. Lord knows we chemo chicks need any other side effort to hinder our treatment plans.

Speak to your oncologist .. and let us know what he/she saids.

I hate, hate, hate cranberry juice. I take the cranberry capsules (one 2 X day) and they work great! Less calories too. You can buy them at Wal Mart or any pharmacy in the area where they sell vitamins and herbal supplements. My sisters and mother-in-law (all plagued in the past with UTI's) now take them and, voila, no more UTI's. Cranberry contains a tannin that prevents bacteria from adhering to the lining of the bladder. Think of it as teflon for your bladder ;-)

Never heard of the capsules ..I will run out and purchase capsules in a few days when my side efforts from TCH and Neulasta subside.

Again, Thank you for the excellent alternative.

But I'd much rather take capsules to be sure to get enough. I never knew about this either. I'll be getting my neulasta shot today, so maybe I'll stop at the store on the way home. Thanks so much for this, Cynthia! Gosh, I just LOVE this site. There's always someone that has an answer to everything!

Love to all! Mar
