Hey Luis -

Just noticed your entry of today in among congrats to "Al". You are indeed a quick learner. Your body will tell you what it does and doesn't like. Like I tell all others, watch out for overloading on sugar, and/or milk products. Too much cheese will send me to the bathroom. Too much ice cream creates excessive gas which can be embarrassing in public. Be forewarned. Don't indulge in too much ice cream at a party.

Hey, when you've passed the "leak" test, you're well on your way to enjoying food of your liking--just in moderation. Hope all continues to go well for you.

May we both depart this life at a ripe old age--oh say about 105! That's a good "old" number. If we get cancer then, I think it best to skip the chemo bit!

Thanks for your post. I am learning little by little. My doctor wants me to take it slow and only eat soft liquid foods for a month. He says I'm recovering very well. I don't want to over do it either. I don't seem to have a problem with ice cream. I've been eating it twice a day now for a couple of weeks and it seems to go down smooth. As for gas, I don't have much of that these days. I use to have excess gas before the cancer, but now in the last week, I think i've had gas only twice.

I do have an issue I'm dealing with now. I just coughed and got a horrible pain on my left back side. It hurt so much that I started to cry. With every sob it hurt more and the more it hurt the more I cried. I took morphine and it settled the pain a little, it seems to hurt when I cough or take a deep breath. I'm not sure if I broke a rib or there is something wrong with my lung.

I'm going to the doctor's tomorrow. Maybe some x-rays will find out whats going on.

And yes, I think 105 is a good ripe old age.

Ciao,

Luis

Hey Luis,

While I am not the doc I can tell you that a cracked or broken rib can hurt the way you describe it. I believe "Wildgoose" cracked or broke a rib. I know that one time Loretta started to have intense pain so much so that she had to go to the doctor. Diagnosis--a cracked rib and she didn't even remember doing anything specifically that would have resulted in that. She had to wear a brace with staves in it to keep her torso more rigid while it healed. And too, who knows how brittle the bones might become with all the treatment we cancer patients have to endure. Haven't done any research on that, but chemo does funny things. You sound like you're doing great.

God bless,

Would like to hear an update about how you're doing Luis. Did/do you have a broken rib?

My hubby had surgery on 12/16 and came home on 12/24. He has two very bad infections in two of the incisions that he has from surgery. He is getting stronger slowly but surely. He has a leak in his new esophagus where they connected it - so no liquids for him for now. Only feeding tube. I guess his recovery will take a little longer now.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Shelly

Hi Shelly,

You know, when the doctor had me, he kept me longer because he wanted to make sure everything sealed. It all went according to plan. I did stay in for 13 days though, but it was smooth. Mine was done in two parts though. i'm not really sure when, but today I'm affraid I have a some bad news.

apparently i Broke my neck and required neck surgery and I don't have all the information yet, but it has something to do with cancer.
I got out of the hospital on Saturday and i'm just getting acclimated with what happened. By the way, I didn't have trauma to my neck just broke on its own..
i'll post more when I find out myself.

Sincerely,

Luis Rodriguez

Hey Lou -

Well, well~~Guess Loretta has cause to be worried now. You will remember, she said, I may be the "head" but she's the "neck". She asked, "Have you ever seen a head go anywhere without a neck?" Thanks for the bad news that now we can all sit around and wait for our necks to break!

Now Lou, are you married? You know we wondered how "Tiger Woods" wrecked his car in his own yard at 2:00 A.M. in the morning. Now we are wondering about you. Do you live next door to Tiger, where "accidents just happen"? You say, "You were just sitting there and the next thing you knew, your neck just broke and you have no idea how it happened! Hhhmmm? Really????

Now on a more serious note, in some of the videos, we just posted from the Heartland Regional Medical Center, I remember in one of those that the doctor said, one's height could be affected. I'm just wondering out loud. Have you consulted your oncologist about this? Just curious, I have no answers for you, just questions. If our height can be affected, that means something is happening with the bones. They must be flattening out.

I know that chemo affected my gum structure . I now have an upper and lower partial plate. I'm not complaining, I just know that the chemo caused my teeth to become loose to the point that extraction became necessary. But partial plates are a great tradeoff for a successful Esophagectomy.

So we hope that your bones will knit nicely. We do know that the longer we are out from the chemo treatments, the more our poor old bodies return to some semblance of normalcy.

Hey Lou,

You have a broken neck, Al has a broken back. Just goes to show you never know what will or
can happen due to chemo.

God Bless,
Kath

I'm really sorry to hear that your neck is broken and that you had to have another surgery. I hope you heal quickly from this and that all will be well with you once again.
Praying,
Shelly
