Well, here it is 2:20am (alarm due to go off in 3 1/2 hours) and I am wide awake. Anxious about seeing my Onc today. Getting there will not be an easy trip for me as I am still in quite a bit of pain (1 1/2 hr ride). I am hoping she will step in and do some further checking into this situation with my abdomin and healing. I am beginning to feel like my abdominal wall did not hold at all. Sometimes you just know your own body to know something is wrong. It has been 5 weeks and I am still having trouble walking, etc. I would feel much better if they ran an ultra sound, CAT or something to check today. My GYN already said that this is out of her scope if the wall pulled apart. However, I am scheduled Friday for a recheck with GYN and not sure if Onc will step on any toes. I will ask anyway if there is anything she can do. Then, also, the wait will begin on the bloodwork, etc. but I am quite use to that at this point. So wish me luck that I make it there and back in one peice as I am wishing I didn't have to go anywhere. Geesh, and this was suppose to be the easy part of my treatment! Go figure....Pammy

Here's extra prayers coming your way, I am up late too,(as always) although appts. tomorrow are looming for me to. I know what you mean, YOU know how your body should feel, and it's not feeling right, seems to me 5 weeks is too long of a time to still have trouble just walking.. The GYN said it's out of her scope, but did she say then where to go next ? Seems like she is dropping the ball instead of passing it on to someone who's capable of fixing this problem. Can you make a bed in the car for the trip and be more comfy ? I have started doing that and am usually able to sleep my 1 1/2 hr to rads, or whatever other appt. I have, long distance doctoring really sucks, I got behind with my radiation treatments due to other health issues cropping up, heart problems, sciatic nerve problems not really related to bc and yet somehow seemed to be brought by it. Ativan has helped me.
We must keep fighting this bc beast, I have been prescribed ativan and that seems to be slowing me down some so I can cope for the time being. For my pains in back and leg sciatic I have yet to find one that does not make me feel worse that I already do, so I do alot of walking off the pain. On the way home from appt. I usually require a shake, malt, iceream of something. Also nausea medication seems to help if taken l hr before my trip starts.
Loads of luck and prayers coming your way all nite long

Thanks for all the well wishes and I was happy just to see you post! My goodness, you also have quite a few other issues to deal with too. I know sciatica can be very painful (my hubby suffers sometimes)and I feel for you on that one!
My GYN did say she would have to refer me to a another surgeon, but wasn't even able to touch me when I was in there because I was too painful and still swollen. So she is trying to determin if in fact she can feel something so we can proceed. She did mention I need to heal first as my body will not take another surgery too soon. I say my body won't take feeling this way too much longer!!
My hubby has decided he doesn't like her now, but I pointed out that she did a great job 4 years ago when she did my hysterectomy. The reason I chose to go back to her for this part. I do think she may have gotten in over her head when she ran into too many problems, but what are you going to do? Can't leave me half cut up!!
I am talking to Onc about antidepressant and sleeping pills. I think after 6 months, I am worn out and giving in. Time for a boast.
I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. I do have to put a pillow between me and the seatbelt, so maybe lying down isn't such a bad idea!! And ice-cream is a definite!!
I'll be thinking about you tomorrow....hugs and smiles Pammy

I am sorry to hear your feeling so bad.Like you I have a Dr. appointment. And a hour drive to get their.I am meeting the radiation Dr. today. And getting cat scan to be marked for treatment starting tomorrow. And I am still breaking out in hives from the chemo allergic reaction. And it would have to be on my breast where I had surgery,I am hoping she will give me something to get rid of the rash once and for all.It itches like crazy. It is much better but 2wks. of itching is no fun.I woke up every hr. on the hr. so i just got up around 5.00.I will be ready for sleep tonight i hope. You mention sleeping pills, when going through Chemo I had to take them. It is so worth it to get a good night sleep.I didn,t take oe last night ,I knew I had to get up early.Well I pray you get good news today.Take care.Prayers are with you.(Pat).

Oh Pammy I'm praying right now that you get some resolve. I'm so sorry that you are having so much pain and discomfort. Please remember that when we feel we cannot endure another thing, He somehow always provides that door. I'm going to be a prayer warrior for you today!

I didnt realize that there are a few of us who travel 1 1/2 hours for our onc and treatment. I pray that 1 1/2 hour ride is an easy ride for you today. God bless You!

walking .. I hope and pray it is due to treatments plus surgery .. Your poor little body is healing, at a slower pace than normal. Pain and discomfort walking is not normal is my book, but what do I know.

I hope and pray that your 1 1/2 drive goes quickly for you with little discomfort.

I too am seeing my Onc today .. for my 4th TCH treatment and here I am in Califorinia .. woke up at 3:30 a.m. cold, wet and sweaty .. due to hormones. Took another shower, and can not fall back to sleep. I am also anxious, as I know what my next 8 to 10 days will be like. Ugly week, as I call it.

Good luck with everything and I truly hope you can get the information you need.

Blessings and strength,

VickiSam

Pammy, here's hoping the trip goes well, and that your pain will be relieved soon. I can't imagine what you are describing, and know there must be something that can be done to help you heal. I would insist on a referral if your GYN isn't able to help you. Good luck, and let us hear how things are going after you return home. Hugs.

By now you are on your way, so when you get back hopefully you'll feel up to reading all the posts telling you how many of us are sending prayers and positive energy your way so that you will find the answers you need to ease your pain.

We all know that you are strong, but we would still like it better if your weren't in a position to have to prove it.

Take care,

Oh Pammy,
I am so sorry that all is not going well for you. You are already on the road so I won't give any advice right now. I just hope that whoever you see today checks this out at least. Friday is a long way off when you are in pain. When I had my hysterectomy my incision split open and I got an infection. They had to pack it and for weeks I had to have a home care nurse come and remove and replace the packing and check it. It delayed my rads by a few weeks but they weren't going to start if it wasn't totally healed. I hope that you haven't split anything inside. It could be adhesions. They can develop quickly and are extremely painful.
My Prayers are that they resolve this and I prescribe ice cream, lots of ice cream. Big cyber hug to you.
Stef

Pammy, waiting to hear how it went for you today. Sorry for all your problems and hope that better days are near. All our prayers go up for you and surely you will get relief soon. You deserve more than ice cream, make that a hot fudge sundae or banana split.

I'm home!
Wow....wish that trick with clicking your heals really worked!!
Thank you everyone for all of your uplifting thoughts and prayers! Just reading your post makes me feel better.
It was a good visit. Doc feels I probably "pulled" my inscisions and that adhesions are forming making it VERY painful. She reminded me that "adhesions" from a previous surgery were part of the reason my surgery became complicated in the first place. She thinks due to the amount of abuse my body has been through these last 6 months, it is struggling to repair itself. Having to be on bedrest has slowed the process (exercise really does help you!), but I have to trade one for the other. I am on the mend...just at a snails pace. She encouraged me to follow up with my GYN this Friday and follow her orders.
Which brought us to the topic of sleep. Hard to do when all you do is lounge around. Again, exercise is really benefical for this too. So I am going to try Restoril (sp) which is not only a sleeping pill but is used for anxiety as well. Gotta love bargain shopping...two benefits for the price of one!
Which brought us to the topic of my mood. Yeah, it has taken a nose dive in the past several weeks, so we are going to try Lexapro (sp) and boast my spirits. Party in my body!! All organs (including brain) welcome!
Which then brought us to "how are you doing on the Tamoxifen?"
After spewing out my long list of side effects (hot flashes, night sweats, mild nausea, hair thinning, skin changes, MAJOR mood swings...although hubby pointed out that only 1 was really worth a nomination for best actress in a horror movie!....and tiredness) I did overall come to the conclusion that it was tolerable and doable as long as it eventually went away and I wasn't looking at 5 years of torture. Nope...I was assured SE's do subside or become very mild within 6 months. However...
She is switching me in 3 months to Arimidex (as long as test confirm I am now postmenopausal). She said then I will possibly have joint aches and tiredness to deal with, but it will be better for me than the Tamoxifen. Only problem is it does deplete the bone and I already have osteopenia. She has a plan in effect to work with that since I can not take any drugs that contain bisophosfates (sp) such as Zometa, etc.
Which than brought us to the descussion of diet. Woohoo....all this laying around and I only gained 1 pound! I blame it strickly on the shoe fashion. You see, last time I saw her I was wearing sandels (warm weather) and today I had on very heavy, klunky, solid, don't fall shoes! Definitly a solid pound! So....we agreed that my diet is going well except she would like me to use natural surgers over artifical sweetners (which is in most diet foods and drinks). Said she would not allow her own children to consume the artifical kind. Too many controversaries. She believes strongly more in what nature has produced in this regard. Best part....(ta da!!) I can eat all the ice-cream I want!! It doesn't get any better than this!
Hugs and smiles....Pammy
Whew....what a great visit!! I feel better already!

So Glad you got some answers. After reading your story I had to laugh a bit. We are a mess aren't we. I won't start tamoxifen, until I am done with chemo and Rads I think. Gee more to look forward to. Hugs

so, by the time I read the post, you have gone and come back, but you (and all the others) are always in my prayers, so hopefully that helped. Glad you got some news you can deal with from the docs regarding your pain, I know this has been an issue for quite some time now, and it makes it hard to heal, doesn't it?

So, hopefully your ice cream was great, and you can get the meds needed to heal, rest and feel better soon.
Take care of yourself! (or have hubby take care of you!)

I am so glad to read this, Pammy. Your doc sounds very knowledgeable and informative and reassuring, someone who can set your mind at ease. You have been through an unbelievable series of events. You couldn't have invented these last months, could you? At least you have no lack of material to work with, if you do decide to write a novel.

Rest well tonight, my friend. Sending you hugs and smiles, and continued prayers for your healing.

Moops

p.s. Thanks for your doctor's opinion about sugar. I can eat some of Joe's ice cream sandwiches in good conscience. (don't tell Mimi!)

Dear Pammy, Sorry this is so late. I am glad that you are home safe and sound, but sorry that you are in so much pain. Just a thought for travelling...do you know someone who has a van that you can borrow? You could make a bed in the back with comfy blankets , a pillow or two, and a cooler of ice cream - be chauffeured to and from those appointments.

Restoril sounds like magic! I hope it gives you the relief that you deserve! I thought Lexapro was one of the antidepressants NOT to take with Tamoxifen; am I remembering wrong? xoxoxoxo Lynn

Just came on to check on you. Glad to read that you now have answers to your questions. You have to feel better about that. We were all sending positive energy your way yesterday and it seems to have worked. Now, we need to plan the ice cream social. Let's get, I think it was Lola, to bring the brownies with rocky road ice cream and chocolate syrup. I'll bring Baked Alaska. This is beginning to make me hungry for ice cream. The absolute best part of all of this.....you feel better Pammy! Sending a gentle hug your way.

Adhesions, and no sleep, and stress~ Oh My!!!

You had quite the day, didn't you? What I do like is that you and your Dr. seem to cover everything! My Dr. never asks me anything "personal"...and with no touch-stones, I never knew any of my meds might even have side effects! Oh well, it is all in keeping with my Ostrich Therapy! :-)

I am glad you are getting reasonable, workable answers and most importantly , you can eat ice-cream!

Hugs, to you!

We both have a little bit of Dorothy Gale within us - yes? (The Wizard of Oz = my favorite movie of all time!)

Well, considering the factors involved - am glad your doctor visit bore good news. And, I'll be hoping all the new recommendations (meds, etc.) will help you to truly feel better as you continue to heal. Remember the tale of the tortoise and the hare? The tortoise unexpectedly wins the race - slow and steady... :-)

Sooo glad you feel better already!

Kind regards, Susan

Bring on the ice cream. I won't say I am glad it might be adhesions but that is better than the alternative. They can really do a number. Pulling and painful. Can you do gentle exercise to help with this? It does make sense considering your surgery problem that adhesions are the culprit. I will keep you in my prayers that this resolves but glad that all in all it went well.

Pammy,
Thank you for sharing your positive news.
I wish you get better and be persistent with your GY. What is your surgeon said about your recovery time?
As for a sleeping problem, many of us have had insomnia. If you take antidepressants I was told not to take them in the evening. From my own experience I found that I feel much better if I take Tamoxifen in the morning after breakfast, very disruptive sleep if I take it after dinner. Still I have been on Ambient for 8 months, now am trying to use natural remedies. My PC suggested Lunesta, I tried but did not like it. Lunesta gives much deeper sleep.
Ice-cream sounds wonderful, if you eat strawberry ice-cream it could be counted as one serving of fruits!
