Metastasis after 22 years

I am 56 years old and was diagnosed when I was 33. Had ER+ breast cancer: large tumor, 4 nodes. Underwent mastectomy, chem, radiation and tamoxifen. I was diagnosed again in April this year: rib metastasis. Had a bone biopsy because I had been so long: same tumor as 1987. I am on arimidex and zometa and finished radiation. Doing ok--all things considered. Just a little shell shocked that this disease could lay dormant for so long. However, I am blessed that I have been this long. My daughter was 4 when I was first diagnosed and she is now 27. I remember praying real hard that I would see her turn 12.

Hi Cypress, I am so sorry
Hi Cypress, I am so sorry you have to go through this again, not fair. I saw that you are on Zometa. I also am on zometa and I was wondering if your doctor told you how long you would be on it for. Prayer works

    zometa
It is my understanding that I will be on zometa for as long as I can tolerate it. Hoping that one day we can switch to an oral form as there are a few studies that are trying oral bisphosphonates as opposed to IV. But for now.....

What a bummer to have it
What a bummer to have it come back. I know I prayed I'd live to see my kids grown and I wasn't even sick! You just never know tho what life will throw at you. They have many more advances in medicine now than they used to. Hang in there.

Cynthia, I am so sorry that
Cynthia, I am so sorry that your bc came back, and, after all of those years and after all of the treatment you had. There are several bc survivors on here that have had the bc come back several times too. It is always so sad and makes each of us wonder if or when will it reoccur with us. I will put you in my prayers!

    oh wow Cypress
What a shock that must have been. It sounds as if you are geared to beat this one too. A positive attitude, I believe, has so much to do with our recovery, and you seem to have that. As others have posted, there are a number of sisters here who have had the beast visit twice and some more, and I am sure they will be posting shortly. Hope all goes well for you, and welcome to the site.

I am sorry that you have to deal with this once again especially after such a long time in remission. I have had cancer on three occassions the last one was 9 years from the second one. It is always a shock but as many have said you can do this, I really believe this! I will most certainly keep you in my prayers. I was 40 when I was dx and had two teen ager's, I too prayed to live to see them grow up. They are now 26 and 29 and I am now praying to live long enough to see my grandchildren grow up and marry! :-D

    My best to you,

Sorry to hear your back in the fight again.. That sucks.. Its a reality check for all of us that It can come back....

I see your taking zometa... I am taking part in the clinical trail with oral bisphosphonates. Its a 3 year clinical trail which I hope proves effective.

    Hi Cypress Cynthia
I'm so sorry the beast returned. If it had to come back, it may have been good it waited this long to resurface, look at the strides made in finding the cure. New drugs, new tests, and you seem to have the right attitude. I find out tomorrow definitely, if I have a new cancer or if its benign. God Bless you in your second battle with the beast.

    Cypress, I'm sorry to hear
Cypress, I'm sorry to hear that you have to deal with this again. BUT, and this is a big one... Think about how much more they know NOW than they did 23 years ago!!! I have to believe that they will treat you again and will be successful. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Keep fighting! Pitt
