So I had my last chemo treatment 6 weeks ago. Started radiation last week. Its just been in the last week and a half that I've noticed my eyebrows and eyelashes are falling out. I thought if this was going to happen that it would have started sooner. Anyone else have this happen and if so, how long before they start to grow back?

Thanks Linda - I was just surprised that I hadn't lost them sooner. My fingernails aren't looking too good either, white lines throughout, but I'm keeping them cut short. I appreciate the info. You take care too.

    Hair loss...
For the time being, chemo is not in the plan for me. However, I continue to read the posts pertaining to hair loss. I have a great deal of curiosity regarding this vexation. Maybe I just have a wierd sense of humor...I don't know...but today I wondered if people lose their nose hairs during chemo? Anxiously waiting an answer...Gracie.

    Gracie,

    Gracie,
You know, I never really thought about it but just looked in the mirror and yes, no nose hairs either. How about that? The only positiive with chemo was not having to shave for many months so my showers have been much shorter. Take care.

    Blunt truth....
Here it is. I lost my hair (All of it) during the first treatments of FEC, Then Taxotare eyebrows, leg hair, underarm, arm, eyelashes..all gone.. Hell I looked like Mr Clean!...The eyelashes were really quick to grow back.. Then I lost my fingernails and toenails, but they grew back within 3 weeks... I am 1 1/2 years out of chemo/rads now, Eyebrows are perfect, thin, I don't have to pluck. Eyelashes thick. Arm and leg hair back to normal (Yeah I look like a bloody monkey again!) Head hair.........Great..On my 3rd cut, thick lush and curly, better than ever. Underarm never grew back on the affected side..(Woohooooooo less shaving!) "Unmentionable Region" was the first to go and the first to come back, but sparse...GOOD!...
I hope this helps, I know it's awful when everything is dropping off like a leper, but it soon comes back, and most of the time; better than before.

    My thoughts are with u..........Jxxxxxxxxxx

    Hi, Nelliott
Yes, mine fell out and not until they were gone did I realize how much 'stuff' the lashes keeps out of your eyes. My last treatment (A/C/T) was Mar. 30 so I'm still growing. The lashes came quickly and eyebrows a little more slowly. Still waiting on the toenails. But my hair and I have come to terms - I'm happy with it. Lashes & brows were the first to come back.............

    I appreciate your response.
I appreciate your response. Guess this is normal anyway - just thought it would have happened sooner so thought I was going to escape some of it. I've lost all my hair too and am hoping that it comes in curly and thicker since I used to have thin fine straight hair. Thanks much.

Glad to hear the lashes and brows come back quickly. It didn't dawn on me for a couple days why I was having trouble applying mascara. I do wonder how long it will take for my hair to start coming back though as I'm tired of wearing wigs since they really are hot - especially living here in Florida. Take care.

    I started losing eyelashes
I started losing eyelashes about 3 weeks after last chemo. I was very surprised. though the hair loss was over. Still losing them a little at a time and its been over a month. THe brows thinned but I don't think they are still coming out. Hair is starting to grow in nicely. It is soft and fuzzy.

    Latisse
I actually broke down and got Latisse to help my eyelashes grow back. I know when i stop using it, my eyelashes will go back to their "normal" which i liked to begin with...but i must say...i am TRULY enjoying my "spider eyes"...i've had to trim them twice...i actually put a little on my eyebrows, and they came back faster too...it's not approved for eyelashes...but i've heard of others doing the same. After about 4 weeks, I left for a trip on thursday, with no lashes...and when i came back on tuesday...i had the fullest, longest lashes every! now i only use it on the weekends so i won't have to take a weekwacker to them.

Yes, they do sometimes fall out after chemo ends. This happend to me, too. I'm now six months out of chemo and they have definitely grown back, but are not quite what they used to be. I still have some gaps but I am hoping they will eventually fill in. As for the rate of growth of the hair on your head, it's different for everyone. I had enough to go without the wig at 3-4 months after chemo, but it still looked abnormally short. Now, it just looks like I have a pixie hair cut -- by choice. My hair was very straight before and it did come back in curly. I don't know how I feel about that. It's incredibly easy to care for though. I've had it layered and textured by my sylist and I just have my neck periodically shaved when I go in for another appointment. I actually kind of like it and my husband loves it. Good luck. It will all eventually come back.

Just want to wish you good
Just want to wish you good luck. As you see, your eyelashes and eyebrows will grow back and sometimes, very quickly. I know it is hard, but, knowing that they come back quick, hopefully, helps you somewhat.

I have been off Taxol for
I have been off Taxol for about 4 weeks. My eyelashes started coming out while I was still on Taxol but now I have about 3 upper lashes left and a few lower lashes. I definitely feel like an alien. I use eye pencil but I am now very conscious of other people's lashes and how I must look. I too am very anxious for them to grow back in. Thank you to everyone who went through this for sharing. I feel that I will actually look human again soon.
The hair on my head is coming in soft and downy but I'm noticing alot more grays.

    I actually ordered some fake
I actually ordered some fake eyelashes and fake eyebrows for this occasion. I'm amazed at how real they look. The eyebrows are made with real human hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little worried about my severe astigmatism. I'm hoping I can glue these on without looking too surprised. Otherwise, i may need a friend to help me do this. I'll keep you posted. I still have another 6 weeks of chemo and then this process will begin for me...

    Stay strong!

    yep! Eyelashes and eyebrows
yep! Eyelashes and eyebrows completely gone. Someone asked me where I have lost hair. I jokingly commented that it was easier to list the places I kept hair. That list is completely blank.
