EARLY roll call: Columbus Day weekend plans!!

Ok, so I seem to have started my weekend a wee bit early. We are probably going camping this weekend, and I needed some cold weather gear. Soooo, during my lunch break I metroed out to Pentagon City mall and hit Nordstroms (hey, there's no rugged camping store at the mall). Well, I must admit, I overdid it a bit, but the pink rain-jacket was so cute and then there was the green Northface slicker, and.... well, you get my point. So, guilt and remorse set in as the lady packed up my belongings into two big Nordstroms bags. Usually, when I feel bad about something, I do more of it. So, guilt about my spending led to lunch at the Ritz Carlton and trying to ignore a leering congressman at the bar next to me (this is not very unusual in DC). Needless to say, I have started the fun a little early.

If the weather holds out, we are headed backcountry camping early tomorrow morning in the Dolly Sods of West Virginia. We plan to meet another couple there, hoist all our gear, including sleeping bags, tents, stoves, cooking utensils, and food, onto our backs and hike into the woods. We have water filters, so we can get our water from streams along the way. There are bears in the area, and we will have to hoist our bags up into trees before we sleep at night. I'm afraid of bears, so this makes me nervous. All in all, it should be a relaxing trip and I'm most looking forward to the camp fires and the food -- Bacon and eggs on a camp stove in the morning; tea with honey; roasted marshmellows with melted chocolate; bloody marys. Although, I have to admit I would rather go car camping, but Simon and the other couple are really into this, so I will go along. We'll be disconnected from the internet, but I'll be taking pictures, which I will post (I know I keep saying that, but I really, really plan to!). We'll get back Monday afternoon and I will update then.

So, now I have to know, what are YOUR rugged or not so rugged Columbus Day weekend plans?!!!

PS. I have started a twitter-feed, so if you feel like following me, my username is Mimivac. Let me know if you want me to follow you!

    I'm jealous! :)
I have to work this weekend, no fun for me! But camping sounds like a blast! I know what you mean when it comes to shopping. I'm especially weak-willed in sporting stores like "****'s Sporting Goods, etc.," I honestly cannot go in there without buying something.

Be safe. Have fun! It looks like it is going to rain all weekend here ... so if I must work, it might as well be gloomy outside!

I'll follow you on twitter. I'm prlxxxx. You're welcome to follow me if you want.

    Speaking of Twitter
I wrote a post about my guilty spending, forgetting that my husband follows me. I think he saw it, because now he sounds MAD at me. LOL. I erased the tweet. What to do? I can't post about all the crazy things I do. LOL.

Dawne, I will follow you. I warn you though, my tweets are BORING.

    Ups and Down
This will be my last weekend for a while (I think) of feeling "normal" I go in for surgery on Monday, and am getting my hair cut really short on Saturday in preparation for possible chemo. I figure that even if I don't end up doing chemo the shorter hair will be easier to deal with during my recovery time and if my hair does fall out at some point it will not be such a drastic change.

On the up side, we're going to celebrate my husband's birthday (a few days early since his birthday will fall 2 days after my surgery)on Saturday night, and we have tickets to a Clippers game (preseason) tomorrow night.

I have a feeling this weekend will go by really quickly for me!

I can't wait to plan my next camping trip - Have fun with yours!

Sounds like a fun filled weekend for you. Watch out for bears and be safe! I have company coming in for the weekend from NC, then my daughter is having a house warming party on Saturday. I'm going to try and relax a bit and maybe yard sale on Monday with a friend if I'm up to it. Hugs, Diane

    Wish
Wish the weather here was warmer to go camping.
Quiet night tonight-Jake at my mom's-teacher workshop tomorrow so no school so I will be working and Jake will be helping make apple cakes, apple sauce and going to breakfast at a restaurant with my mother.
Saturday-drain the pool and put away all the summer stuff.
Sunday-sunday school, church and then football game--we might do church Saturday evening instead so we aren't so rushed.
    Monday--relax.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Margo,
That sounds great. All the apple recipes remind me of fall cooking. I guess summer really is over.

    Plans
Well camping sounds great but not outdoors this time of year for the Mrs. So the next best plan is the cabin with the crackling fire place , running water , shower & most important ........a toilet for my lovie. Little to cold up here at night for running behind the bushes and I don't care to see another bear this year. They got my wife's bird feeders, Trash cans and who knows what else they ate that I haven't found yet....LOL.....! Hope everybody has a great long weekend and make the most of it .

    Best Wishes

    Cabins and roaring fires
Steve, believe me that sounds better than roughing it to me, too. It might get down to the 30's at night in the WV mountains. Just went out and bought a bunch of cold weather gear. I hate being cold! I hope we can get a good fire going, and that we don't see any bears.

Sunday is going to be a blast. I am meeting a couple friends for breakfast and then we are going to the casino. Hopefully, i will win some money and it is off to the Mall for some shopping, maybe with my daughter. Mimi, how did your shopping trip go? I guess very well if your hubby was mad, lol. Enjoy everyone

I'm jealous .. I have no energy .. Hard to make plans
However, try as I may ... I will be out and about this week-end .. Movie, out to Dinner -= can't taste too much ...

I would like to finish up my Christmas shopping this week-end .. starting my 3rd cycle of 6 TCH/HERC/HERC .. I feel zapped now after 2nd cycle .. need 2 think ahead .. get some of party planning for Holidays in gear.

My chemo is scheduled to be completed - mid January .. So I have several exciting trips planned before my bi-lateral.. Girls - Las Vegas 4 day holiday, Mexico cruise and trying to squeeze another trip with hubby in for late February.

I love to go hiking or camping ..BUT, I am afraid that a helicopter would be commissioned to fly me out of any state park .. no energy .. Perhaps, I will start with baby steps this week-end .. Nordstroms, Saks .. okay .. feeling better now.

    Hi Mimi,

Whenever I come to this site, I look for your messages. You have a terrific attitude and bring a smile to my face. You are a blessing to all of us.

No definate plans for the week end. I run my own business so I can take Monday if I want but not sure yet. I definately plan to spend some time outside. Fall is so beaustiful! I will also cook something yummy. I WILL also get some solid exercise. I haven't been diligent about that lately and I know how important it is.

I made an appt to get hypnotized so I can change some stubborn habits I have. I've really struggled with giving up my glass or 2 of wine I drank while I cooked dinner. I haven't been having it (except on special events) but I'm still struggling with denying myself. I also need motivation to get my butt moving. At your age, I was a 6 day a week excerciser but I'm 59 now and just don't want to do it anymore. I have the tapes, eliptical, hand weights, eliptical but no motivation. Knowing what I know about BC, I don't understand why I don't just do it!

Have a wonderful time camping. Can't wait to get the details!

    On our way!
Well, we are driving to WV with all our gear. The weather will be screwey: high of 87 today and in the 60's and rainy the rest of the weekend. I hardly know what to wear. We're losing service so I better post this soon. Roseann, your hypnotism sounds fascinating. Please let us know how that goes. I might try it, too. OK let's see if this goes through.

    Hi Mimi
I love that Nordstrom in Pentagon City, even tho its a bit of a trip for me. I have to work on Monday, so no holiday for me! I have my Mom with me so maybe we'll plan a shopping trip. Too bad the outlets in Martinsburg are a trip - she can't take a long car ride any more. She had her 88th birthday last week, but because of my little bump in the road we haven't celebrated yet - so maybe I'll take her to dinner on Saturday (if Notre Dame isn't playing) or on Sunday. You be careful up in them there mountains and be safe! Stay warm!

    My one weekend of something
My one weekend of something planned and I have the flu so won't be going. Oh well.

I love Bass Pro. They have everything for camping. But I will say we have to camp with more then a tent anymore. We did have a 22ft trailer but sold it. Don't have time to camp anymore. Maybe some day.
