Jack is getting worst today, the swelling in his face is so bad his eye is shut, We went to the ER they sent us home and said it was from the chemo and the steriods, His sister is a nurse and telling different things, like swelling in the brain, We have an appointment again with his doctors and chemo not sure what they are going to do, I dont know why they did not do a CT scan while he was in the hospital, Are the doctors right is it just swelling and the steriods, or is it something more serious like his sister keeps telling me, HE's eating good, his blood work is good, chest xray is good, but it is his face, His sister keeps pushing surgery, the doctors say no, I cant be in the middle of them, I am scared out of my mind, I have a bad feeling the cancer in his neck is getting worst, I knew there would be a time where he would get worst, but I am not ready, I need more time, we need more time,

I believe if it were brain swelling Jack would be displaying other symtoms. Is he having delayed response?...confusion?...slurred speech?...e.t.c.. These would be things I would watch for. I would tend to believe that it was the chemo and steroids [ steroids are known to cause swelling]. My husband had swelling of the brain due to a rare side effect of avastin but it was not without symtoms. He woke from a nap with slurred speech and one side of his face was slightly droopy. Since ER sent him home I would not panic but would be concerned if you notice symtoms such as blurred vision...headache or others I mentioned above. Of course I'm just making a logical guess.

Keep us posted on what the Dr. says,

Take Care, Trish

You must remember that she is not a doctor. If her negitive feedback is only going to cause you grief than maybe you need to have a little chat with her. I know she is worried too but sometimes we just have to trust the doctors. You and your husband will be in my prayers.

my experience with steroids was that my husbands face swelled, actually it was huge. call the oncologist and tell them what you are seeing.

We have found that ER is not very helpful. The minute we said chemo, they attributed everything to that. Listen to your onc. and doctors. Call them and make a pest of yourself. As for time. There is never enough time. We are never going to be ready. Tell the sister to come with you to doctor appointments and express her concerns to them. Then you will all have the answers you need. Fay

Patty-I hope you find the answer to Jack's face swelling. Yesterday for Dale was bad. He was lightheaded, vomited, his left foot is painful and swollen twice the size, and of course the never ending mucous. He was taking hydrocodone and just quit. Maybe that's it. I don't know. We have a doctor appt. Wed. Everyday it's something different. Sunday the frustration level was about a 10+. Wake up to 5 inches of snow, no power and water for 12 hours, social security disability denied and slapped with a jury duty summons. What else will be added to the plate this week? Patty, I am thinking of you and praying for you both everyday. You are scared and you have every right to be. I wish I could comfort you more. Please hang in there.

Patty. Many of us have to deal with family members that seem to have their own agenda. Most of my family was a month or two behind things I had already done. My whole head swelled while I was on steroids. I had the classic moon face. It took a few months to get head back to normal after treatments and about 3 years to lose the 18 pounds I gained.
