wig question

How many of you prefer wigs or just hats and scarves? Do you have problems keeping the wig on your head? Are there products to wear under it to keep it from slipping? I'm afraid I'll get out in the wind and there it goes. I've also never worn hats and scarves, not even a ball cap. My wigs arrived yesterday and they look nice but they don't seem like they will stay securely on. I haven't tried them on over all my hair. Need your suggestions.

You can get a product called
You can get a product called "spirit gum" from a costume supply or theatrical supply store (especially this time of year). It's a liquid that you can brush on your temples where the "sideburn" part of the wig hits and it basically glues the wig down above your ears and it won't move until you use the spirit gum remover.

EDIT: You can find spirit gum and remover on Amazon.com. There is also an "Elite Lace" wig company that has a bunch of YouTube how-to videos for using spirit gum with wigs if you go to YouTube and look up Elite Lace wigs.

    hello
I had the same concerns, wig not staying on, etc....I have a wig but I dont wear it. I wear scarves and bandanas. The wig shouldnt go anywhere but there are adhesives that will offer additional grip if you are really worried..I have always worn bandanas and hats because I ride a motorcycle so im used to it.
Keep in mind, your wigs will fit differently once your hair falls out...trying them on over your hair isnt going to give you a true pic or feel.
    Hope this helps

    Ok, now people are talking
Ok, now people are talking about wigs, I have a funny story. Back in the 70's wigs were popular for anybody having a bad hair day. These were basically the inexpensive synthetic kind, not the nicer natural like kind like you ladies going through chemo can buy. but this is funny, so I hope it makes you ladies get a chuckle.

My aunt who lived with me at the time had a wig, well, I went to work before her and she calls me at work. I worked on an assembly line, my supervisor came to me and said your aunt needs to talk to you, it's an emergency! so, they put someone in to cover my spot while i went and called her. She said to me "Why did you cut the bangs on my wig"!!! I told her I never touched her darn wig. So she went back and forth with me. Later that evening I asked her to show me what she was talking about. she puts it on, it does look like the bangs were cut when she put it on, then I said, "Let me see it" then I handed it back to her and said "Now try it!" Here she put it on bassakwards.

I thought I saw onsome of
I thought I saw onsome of the websites a thin cap you can put on first on your head, and then put your scarf or beenie or wig, and it holds it in place better. I have to say there are some really cute styles you can get.

Thanks for tips and yes, Pat, you may put me on friends list, but how does that work, I've only used the discussion board?? I start chemo on Monday. Go today for bone result and chemo class.

    Wigs and chemo
Great to get these comments. I too bought a couple wigs the other day. One looks just like my hair and the other kind of funky...I am NOT funky, but whatever - my daughters insisted :) I am so anal about my hair - freaking out about losing it - can't see myself doing scarves, maybe certain hats. Anyway I start chemo this morning. Kind of freaking out about it a little cause I just don't know what to expect. I'll be thinking of you on Monday....with all the drugs they have out there I'm hoping we won't get sick at least. Good luck Laurissa. GG

    Laurissa, I just use scarves
Laurissa, I just use scarves and ball caps. I tried on several wigs and even had a couple ordered in my hair color but they just weren't comfortable to me. There are quite a few beautiful headwraps (they require no skills to tie). I ordered several of these online at www.4women.com. I ordered both the silk and rayon and am very happy with both.

P.S. I loved the story on wearing the wig backwards. That would have been very funny!

I wear scarves around the house, but when I go out I wear my wig. It makes me feel more like myself. I have been wearing it since June and never had a problem with it coming off. Mine has velcro tabs on the inside to adjust the fit. Wear whatever make you feel comfortable!! Hugs, Diane
