I am a cancer patient . A tumour is suspected in my left optic nerve or in the brain frontal lobe(in the cerebral region ) near tha area where optic nerve originates .I had two MRI's .One suggested that it could be pilocytic Astrocytoma and the other mri suggested it could be glial neoplasm .

Now they(Dr's) asking me to get admitted and have a biopsy which would make the situaltion clear.Although it loooks like a benign tumour. If the tumour is found to be from brain it could be totally removed or if it is from optic nerve ,a part of it can be removed .

I think in such a case i have a high risk of me loosing my vision ? What so u ppl suggest should i wait or get operated as soon as possible .

Please do post ur suggestions on my mail id as well as it may not be possible for me to look at the posts here .My mail id is tar1583@gmail.com

I am really worried .Plz help me .I am a software engineer .My age is 26 and i would also want to know how long i would be required to have a rest in case i get a brain operation done to remove tumour?

get a second opinion. if the second opinion is the same then make your choice. my understanding is that benign or cancerous tumors can interfear with brain function. i.e. either way it may need to be treated. my experience with brain tumors tells me to go to the best teaching hospital in your area. by that i mean, google and find the best hospital in your state for neurological problems and go there because they have the latest protocols and your best chance for a good out come. actually brain surgery recovery can often be no different than any other surgery. the only way for you to get the answers to all of your questions is to see and talk to the experts. ignoring this situation is not an option, face it now! go to the best hospital possible i can't say that enough because it is your brain were talking about. let this site know how you are doing, good luck.

Hi Sue ,

Finally i have started with my treatment and i am going for a technique called cyberknife .I have been diagnosis for optical glioma .Dr's say that its very close to my chaisma and few blood vessels (ICA and MCA)and may effect when it grows so early treatment is required . I suppose these locations of tumours are rare and very few patients have been treted with such cases. Here they would treat me with cyberkbife machine for 5 days .The treatment thy have started yesterday . I dont know whether this is the best solution but just started with it in order to avoid a major brain operation .

the thing that i am not sure is how they r sure abt treating a small tumour in my case ? they say that they are going to melt the tumour ? but they are not repeating any medical tests ? they say that they would trest for 5 days and then test for the outcomes aftr 3 months , Hope everything goes fine ?

If any one have any info abt such cases plz contact me or if any queries are there !!

Hi All ,
I am going for follow up check-ups after i had cyber knife .The tumor size has reduced from 2*2*2.5 cms to 2*1.8*1.5 cms .
The contrast enhanced size has decreased from 2*2*2.5 to .8*1.0*.7 which seems to be a good improvement since this is the active area which can grow . Hope everything continues this way and i am finally able to live a normal life as i m doing now .I had cyber knife six months back in Bangalore ,India.

I had few side effects of cyber knife :
a. lost some hairs.
b. still i feel little bit of headache and heavyness and get tired early .

But i think these are acceptable if i am able to recover totally!!
I am feeling optimistic now .Lets see what happens ?

If u have any suggestions or concern ,please mail me at tar1583@gmail.com
I will be in touch .Thanks a Lot !!!
