    Hair today........
Hang in there! After a few days, okay, maybe a week or so, you'll be somewhat used to it....been there! It's tough at first....I didn't think it would bother me, but it did. I had it all buzzed before it had a chance to start falling out. THEN when the "buzzed" started falling out in the shower, I cried...I surprised myself as I kept saying "it's only hair." Now I've been bald so long I forget what it's like to have hair, except when I have my wig on.....for me I wear it when out in public, but usually not around the house. I tell people that wearing a wig is like having a cat wrapped around my head! My wig is very much like my own haircut.....most people don't realize I'm even wearing one....I get the "didn't you lose your hair?" DUH.....My best friend said....."It looks like your own hair, only better." tee-hee I have finished chemo by 5 1/2 weeks and am starting to get "peach fuzz" and stubble......For me, when it really started coming out it was painful and my head was very tender. What really surprised me once it was all gone was how white my head was......I was born with a headful of hair so I had never been bald, thus no sun ever on it....I told my husband I looked like a "headlight!" He could use my head as a nightlight!

Hang in there, it does it get better

    congrats on taking that
congrats on taking that step.. I know how hard that was. After a few weeks you'll get use to it. And after a few months you'll get sick of it and have days you just want your hair to grow back. at least that's how I feel now. done with chemo and ready to restart my life, lol which includes having some hair back

I had my sister shave mine and in honor of me.. she shaved hers too.

good luck.. with the rest of your treatment...

    You're awesome!
Getting it shaved off can be the worst part. But now it's over. Think of it as another step toward fighting the beast and regaining your (healthy) life. Glad you are feeling well.

    Yay Sam!
Good for you and glad that you had someone with you to shave your head and for moral support! And who better to do it than a fellow survivor! I bet that she will be a source of strength and wisdom for you as you go through this journey(not that we cannot, but she is someone you can physically see)!
I'm glad that you are doing well and ready to conquer-good for you!!
And one of my doctors always told me when I was bald that I was beautiful and that hair only took away from one's facial features anyways!!

    If you lose your eyelashes,
If you lose your eyelashes, remember to wear sunglasses. Your eyelashes protect your eyes and catch the debris before it falls in your eyes, they also act as a shade against the sun. So, sunglasses are very important. Take care, and you will get through this. I am a 1 year survivor so I understand what you are going through. I hope I can help...

Good for you Sam .. When did you start your chemo
treatments? I started on 9/8 .. and I have been shedding like a dog. I too took the bull by the horns last night and shaved my own head .. in the privacy of my bathroom .. snip.. snip .. razor in hand - shaving cream .. somewhat like a doctor operating .. Well,
I look like Frankenstein's 'UGLY' step sister .. The right side of my head --shaved too close .. left side pretty even .. I refused to described the back of my head. Oh well, hair today .. gone tomorrow.

My family faces said it all.. yep, "Ugly" step sister. What the h .. I did it and proud to say .. no nicks. Sexy is not a word that would describe me, at this point in time .. shaved head and acne .. Ugly step sister of Frankenstein, just another chapter in my chemo journal.

Sam, you are sexy, young and full of life .. Breast cancer can not change that.!!!!!

    Hi Sam
Yeah...I cried too...I still look in the mirror and wonder who is looking back at me esp now since I am losing my eyebrows...I dont have a face!!!

Anyway...as far as the hair goes, mine was so thin and ugly I actually do think I look better bald! Maybe it will grow in thick and beautiful...we shall see

Hang in there and be brave

I'm glad you made the HARD
I'm glad you made the HARD decision and just did it. You will get used to it and will probably enjoy the timesaving on getting ready. All I wear are scarves and ballcaps. I wasn't comfortable in any of thr wigs I tried on. When I'm at home, it's bald and beautiful. Well, I don't know about the beautiful part, but my family does say I have good bone structure. At least that's something, huh? Probably just something to make me feel better....but I'll take it!

    Bald & Beautiful!
    Sam,
YAY for you! When the time came for mine to be shaved, my son did it! I wasn't sure I could have him do it but I realized for him, it was his way of taking care of me (in a way) His girlfriend brought "virgin" margaritas and we took pics as my hair got shorter & shorter. I've been done with chemo for a month now & I have peach fuzz all over my head - my eyebrows are making a showing also, and hopefully my eye lashes aren't far behind. Just another step along the way - much love,
    -Jenny

I'll be there in a few
I'll be there in a few weeks, starting chemo soon. I know it will be an emotional time for me too. I have farrah style hair, thick and long, never had short hair. It will be quite a transition, but if it saves my life, I'll grin and "bare it". Good luck to you!

I don't know if they have
I don't know if they have Farrah style wigs, but I am pretty sure I saw Raquel Welsh style wigs. I don't need chemo, my oncotype score was 21, so I was borderline closer to the low side so I decided I'd forgo the chemo and just get the rads and the hormone therapy, but I was looking at the wigs and hats just in case.

Believe it or not, when I was in my early 20's I had 3 synthetic wigs and a fall. I had the fall in a plastic bag to put in place when I got to work, well it slipped off the passenger's seat onto the floor, I went to reach for it and drove up onto someone's lawn! Luckily, they didn't see me, it was early in the morning!
