reoccurence less then 6 months

Anyone else out there have had a reoccurence within 6 months. I finished chemo in April '09. My surgeon suspects my recurrent GI sx may be related to growing cancer. She suspects my sx are bowel obstructions which resolve without medical intervention. CA125 remained WNL although did rise 3 points and is now at a 12. CT scan one month earlier was clear. She wants to repeat CA125 in one month. I'm hoping she is wrong and my GI problems are adhesions. I understand the implications of a reoccurence within 6 months. Anyone out there had any success with non-platnim medications?

Hey Nancy, I my reoccurence was back in 10 months. My CA-125 was at 7 pts. in February and it jumped to 139 in June. They put me back on Doxil (lesser dose and 4 weeks apart)since it seemed to work the last time. However, she also gave me some bad news. My Dr. mentioned that once a patient have a reoccurence, they will always have a reoccurence. Lucky me I guess. I hope this is not the case with you...With all my prayers...

    symptoms of bowel obstruction
Nancy thank you for your reply. Did you have sx of bowel obstruction? I'm averaging at least once per month with intense cramps that render me unable to function. I cannot eat or drink during these episodes and I do vomit. I usually go on clear liquid intake as tolerated until the symptoms lessen. 3 times I went to urgent care or the ER and no obstruction was found on xray or CT scan. Usually the symptoms will lessen in about 48hours of limited intake and within 4 days I'm back to myself more or less. When I do not have these episodes my bowels alternate between diarrhea and constipation. Now I did have an illeostomy (like a colostomy) for several months which was reversed in Feb. 09. I'm hoping adhesions are causing my symptoms or possibly a hernia although none was seen on Xray or ct scan.

Thank you for your reply. I realize the implications of a reoccurence especially if its within 6 months or less. Were you then put on Doxil. My surgeon mentioned Doxil as well. I am being treated at a teaching hospital in NYC and I do believe there is a clinical trial for reoccurence with ovarian. How is your cance responding to the Doxil?

    less than 6mnths
Sorry to hear you may be dealing with recurrence and praying it was from an obstruction and has already cleared itself. I have been on lots of non-platinum drugs, some successful some not. sending you hugs ♥ prayers. Bonnie

    Hi Nancy
I want to be in touch with you because I am having a recurrence, within 8 months - and I also have 2 little kids. I am a single mom with twin girls, and a fallopian tube diagnosis. Currently on Carbo/Gem. How are you doing, Nancy?

    Hi Nancy: I finished 6
Hi Nancy: I finished 6 rounds of gemzar and cisplatin just 3 weeks ago. As a matter of fact I have CT scan today. My sdigestive tract took a real beating and I wondered how long I would feel this way. I still get waves of nausea and bad taste in my mouth. I always have an "unsettled" feeling. Glad the chemo is over, but of course I am very nervous about the scan. I was diagnosed 10 years ago, clean for 7 1/2 years and 3 recurrences since then. CA 125 was 10 last time. Love to hear from you.

  • Adhesions
    Nancy,
I had debulking surgery in June of 2009. I finished chemo in November of 2009. I was having a nagging pain in my right, lower pelvic area. I requested a scan and my CA-125 was a 7. It is an adhesion that is wrapped around a nerve. If your CA-125 is a 12 and you had a clean scan a month ago, I do not see how the oncologist can think the cancer is growing. Now if your CA-125 doubles by next month, I would request another scan. That debulking surgery we have leaves alot of adhesions. They cut out alot of stuff. When they put your bowels and intestines back in, sometimes you have kinks or it can become twisted. They do not like to do more surgery for adhesions, because it causes more adhesions. If the adhesions get to painful they can do laproscopic surgery (I do not know if I spelled that right) and burn the adhesions off. If you want to talk more about it, e-mail at vintagehouse@comcast.net. Thanks, Paula
