ROLL CALL: I have a crazy weekend planned, how about you?!! Weekend Plans!

Ok, I know I haven't been posting much lately. I've been reading everyone's posts and wishing everyone well in my head, but I haven't been able to translate that to writing. Why? I am swamped at work. Crazy, I know. Usually, I am here typing away, but I actually have a conference deadline coming up and I need to produce a paper for that. So, I am REALLY ready for the weekend!

Tonight, Simon and I will go out to a new little bistro in Old Town. I am hankering for some raw oysters and white anchovies. We are sort of commiserating because we've had to put our house buying plans on hold for now. After visiting our real estate agent yesterday, we realized that we would take a loss on selling our condo and then have to dig into our savings to come up with downpayment money on a new place. We'd be left with no money and that makes us nervous. We've been having visions of our own little house with a yard and a dog, but it's not to be. Oh well. We love our little condo and even contracted for housecleaning services every week, so it is always nice and clean.

Saturday, after my personal training session at the gym and grocery shopping, I plan to have my third haircut and beautify myself for a wild 30th birthday party near our DC waterfront that evening. I LOVE getting ready for a party. I spend time taking a long bath beforehand, with a glass or two of wine on the ledge. I'll see friends I haven't seen in a while, so that will be nice.

OK, Sunday I'm doing something that you might think is kind of nuts. I do, too, but I'm really ready for it. I'm having a personal shopper/fashion consultant come over to do a closet consultation. She'll go through my clothes and tell me what should stay and what should go. Then she'll make a list of what I need to round out a fall wardrobe. Next, we'll make an appointment to go shopping together and she'll come back home with me, coordinate the outfits, and take pictures for a "look book" that I can refer to. I am so excited. Simon is chagrined that I found yet another innovative way to spend money. I know, I know, but I need some serious help and am ready to look put-together.

Ok, I have gone on and on about my weekend, so I must ask: what are YOU doing this weekend?!!

    I'm going to
spend some time prepping my mind for Monday's consult with the Oncologist. I've got all the questions ready and my daughter is going with me. So in order to prepare I'm going to -
Find a shady spot on the waterfront near Kahalui Beach Part - maybe stick my legs in the sun because my family is saying they are getting a bit pale - and just listen to the ocean and watch the turtles. I'm excited because I finally feel like I'm strong enough to drive (not on pain meds) so it will be an excursion.
Before coming back I'll go stick my feet in the water at the shore's edge. The ocean has always been a healing factor for me. In the last 38 years I haven't lived more than a few miles away from it. Just walking along the edge (always watching out for the waves cuz I've been caught more than one) can bring my blood pressure down and is almost as relaxing as a massage (not quite and since I can't lie on my stomach yet this will have to do)
Then I stop by the farmer's market on Ali'i drive and get some anthyriums and other tropical flowers for myself.
Yesterday my daughter-in-law took me to the library so I got some good mysteries. Much as I have come to love this website and communicating with everyone, I'm finding I need to take a break from it because my shoulders were getting tired. Sunday, I'll read and the house will actually be quiet as my family is going to go out to Oceanview to visit family and going along is not an option. I love the kids but an afternoon with 5 kids under the age of 11 doesn't count as relaxation.
Mimi - I love the idea of having someone put me together fashionably! Between the weight loss and the new "figure" I have right now, I need HELP!
Will post on Monday night how the onco appt went. I really appreciate the info I'm learning here. Feel like I can ask intelligent questions and have my daughter to write down answers to remember. Have wonderful, relaxing weekends everyone. Lola

    Hi Lola,
Your preparations sound very level-headed and relaxing. I wish I had had the wherewithall to do that. I was a mess before I started chemo. I love the idea of fresh flowers and mystery novels! I think I will buy some flowers this weekend as well. I hope you have a peaceful weekend and good luck on Monday. We'll be looking for a post when you feel up to it.

    Nice Nice!!!!
It all sounds delightfully decadent! I say we all already deserved it, and battling the BC Beast just is the icing on our deserving nice things forever cake! Don't think twice ( not that you were! LOL) just do it all and enjoy it even more!

I already told you what I have going on in the next Two weekends~ I replied to your question about weekend plans in my post about "wishing you all could have been on the island" with me. In a nutshell, Lance Armstrong 10K tomorrow, sadly a funeral on Sunday~ 22 year old DUI :( and Las Vegas next Friday.

Have a lovely lovely time; and don't forget to donate your old clothes to a women's shelter!!!

    Hugs,

Lola I am so jealous. There
Lola I am so jealous. There is nothing I would like more than to be in Hawaii watching the turtles!
I agree there is nothing more relaxing than sitting by the ocean. I grew up in Southern California and spent alot of time lying on the beach listening to the waves come crashing in. I sure miss that.

As for my weekend, my husband is preparing our floor for acid staining. I ripped out the carpet and ceramic tile a L O N G time ago and we planned on getting wood floors...well that never happened and now we are doing the acid stain as a "temporary fix". So tomorrow I will be helping by following behind him with the shop vac that we found at the yard sale last weekend!
Sunday I think we are supposed to meet some of his co-workers and spouses to watch the Steelers game somewhere across town. That means I will probably be the designated driver!

    Wow
Your weekend sounds full with a 10K and a funeral. So sorry about the latter.

Very impressed about the 10K! Good luck. I will definitely remember to donate the clothes. Thanks for reminding me. I've also been thinking seriously about your practice of making lunch for homeless folks and handing them out at a park. I would love to cook for people in my area like that. I am shy about it, though. What is your approach?

    After work tonight, I'm off
After work tonight, I'm off for my pedicure....don't worry no cutting cuticles. I do this every 3 weeks or so. It's the perfect ending to the workweek and very relaxing. Tomorrow, it's laundry and some cleaning then off to friends house to watch the Florida/Tennessee football game......Go Gators!! Sunday will be finishing up the housework and perhaps a nice long walk on the beach. As Lola said earlier, there is nothing better than the ocean. We live a half block away and spend a lot of time just relaxing and relieving any stress. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend too!!

    Ohh, pedicure
Sounds fantastic! I suppose you have a regular place, so they know not to cut the cuticles. Very nice. Your weekend sounds cozy. I don't follow football, but I love that the beginning of the season means that autumn is here and we'll have crisp, cool days and it's time for stews and chili!

    Pedicures How I Love Them
but have been sadly disappointed the last several months. I had resorted to my daughter changing the color for me. But I finally found a place here in Kona that knows about being careful. A good friend who is diabetic recommended her. It's not one of your in and out quickie shops that seem to be everywhere on this island. Down side is that she is popular with her clientele. The earliest I could get in was a week from today and I called the beginning of the week. She already knows that I've had a recent mastectomy but I'm looking forward to the pampering. Lola

Here is what I do, Mimi.
Here is what I do, Mimi. When I have left over food ( often, especially after having company or making holiday food) I make sandwiches with it, and package everything up individually in foil..still thinking of the ecological aspect of it all! I wrap up brownies or slices of cakes, the sandwiches, whatever I have. After Thanksgiving, for example, I divided up pieces of turkey, stuffing, pie, etc. I don't generally give soup or anything liquid~ too hard to transport! I put all of it in paper grocery bags, and drive around the city parks, looking for homeless. I don't judge why they are homeless, drugs, alcohol, mental illness, or a reversal of fortune~something has made them homeless, and they are hungry too! I just CONFIDENTLY walk up to the group in the park and say " I have extra food here, and don't want it to go to waste; can you use it?" I have never been met with anything but kindness and thankfulness; nothing scary has ever happened to me. My daughter and Reggie's daughter worked in a bakery, and by law, they had to throw away everything "old" on Sunday night at closing time. They would bring it all home to me and I would divided pastries/rolls etc into brown bags and give them out too. I have also been bold enough ( when I know the people!) to ask for the leftovers after a potluck and I tell them why! I went to a 55th birthday party at a rec center~ there was sooo much leftover they didnt know what to do with all of it! I knew! LOL Whereas most people don't want to take home 60 pieces of leftover garlic bread, I can find a group of hungy people who will eat that and the carrot sticks and celery! :-)

A lot of agencies cannot by law take your homecooked or leftover food, which is why I go right to a park. I do they same thing with leftovers from a restaurant, be it breakfast or lunch. That is generally only enough for one person~ so I drive until I find a sad soul with a shopping cart, or with a Need Help sign standing near a freeway on-ramp.I hand the food out the window, and say..."I have a hot breakfast~ can you use it?" Again, no one has ever turned me down.

Let me know how it goes, Mimi~it's good for the soul!

    Yes!
Thanks, Claudia. I am going to try this, too. I think it's a great and direct way to help somebody. Great idea about the restaurant leftovers, too. We go out to eat a lot and sometimes the food goes to waste sitting in the fridge. I would rather give it to someone who needs it. I've had the desire to cook for people for a while, but didn't know how to direct it since most agencies won't take homecooked food, as you point out. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Your weekend sounds

Your weekend sounds wonderful. And I love the fashion consultation thing. What a great thing to do. And actually you will save money for Simon in the long haul because you will make better use of your clothing and see ways to add to what you have and not just buy impulsively. I think it would be so much fun to do a fashion makeover as it were. And these people have the savvy to know what will pull your clothing together. And then shopping, always a fun thing to do. All in all you have a fantastic weekend planned. Green with envy. We are doing a yard sale. Never did one before and not looking forward to it, but it will be good to have one more thing done.
Know what you mean about the housing market but glad you like your condo and the market will rebound and then you'll have the house, yard, dogs etc.
    Have wonderful weekends everyone.

Aww, sorry you are feeling crummy. I think it's great that you have all those auctions going. I wish I could do it. What do you sell? Is it hard to get started? Hope you throw off the yucky feeling and have a great weekend.

Tj, that sounds lovely. Maybe you can post pics of your garden. That's half the reason I want a house with a yard. Have fun with it.

Chen, did you say Las Vegas next weekend? Me too. Anyway, this weekend I'll be getting ready for next weekend and getting my notes together for Monday's 3 month follow up visit with Oncologist. Fall-like weather in Texas and I'm lovin' it.

    My weekend
Tonight--quiet house Jake is with my sister overnight.
Saturday-Golf Outing then pick Jake up and buy his cub scout shirt and stuff.
Sunday-Jake's first football game--should be hilarious--these boys are 6 and 7 and don't really know anything about football--most of them can't catch a ball--all they want to do is tackle someone.

And in the middle of everything else--do wash--especially Jake's school uniforms--I really need to get more. Drink a few beers. Go over Jake's spelling words--huge list.

    Oh and grocery shopping.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Hugs,
    Margo
