First chemo on 9/8 .. 3 cocktail drugs .. constipated until 3:00 a.m. Saturday .. now my vjj area and buttocks are raw from discharging chemo .. Walking around without undies .. corn starch, ?? hard for me to pee .. painful.. ..

Sorry for being so graphic .. however .. I am at my wits end.. Emergency room states that I should soak in bath tub for 1/2 every few hours .. I think that sounds crazy, due to irration ..

Poor thing!!! I would try the soaks... then gently pat dry.. then maybe lay down with just a sheet and no undies so air can heal it and so moisture won't stay in there...

    call your doctor!!
I would call your doctor first thing in the morning and express the pain you are in and that you need immediate relief! In the mean time vagisil has wipes that are medicated and will allow you a bit of relief till the doctor can give you something better. I am so sorry you are in such pain and hope you get this resolved soon.

    Hugs,

    Yikes. Contact your
Yikes. Contact your oncologist, I was also constipated at one time, I used Tucks Wipes on my butt, however I did not have a problem with my vj area. I think the emergency room sounds crazy too. You should not be that uncomfortable in that area.

    Help for sore bottom
I use the same sort of medicine that is used for diaper rash. And keep it dry and no underwear. I know that is very painful. But hang in there. It won't always be that way.

    For immediate relief, I
For immediate relief, I can't add anything to what these ladies have said. Going forward, I can share the advice of my sister, an RN who works in a chemo clinic part-time. She told me to use stool softeners consistently. Apparently, constipation is a common problem with chemo patients; she said it is not unusual for patients to need enemas. You might ask your doctor about a product. Lorrie recommended Sennacote(generic is fine).

Hope you are feeling better now.

    Maybe a yeast infection....
The chemo wipes out the GOOD bacteria as well as the bad stuff...I agree with everyone...call your doctor...sitting in a tub will not relieve a yeast infection...

I drank alot of water the day before, day of, and day after infusion. I kept a big bottle of water with me at all times. This not only flushes the unneeded chemo faster, but keeps the constipation at bay. With my rectal cancer, believe it or not, I would come home after rads and sit in a tub for awhile...it DID help!

    Constipation
If you are taking pain meds don't forget the laxatives!!! I spent New Years Eve on the "Ward" because my Onc gave me meds for the pain but forgot to tell me that pain meds STOP you bowels. Other than that call the doctor. Take care!

    Ouch!
as far as the rawness....my doctor had to treat me for a bacterial vaginal AND bacterial uti...almost immediate relief..ahhhhh, a pill, and a gel to insert. Seems like i'm prone to them still if i'm given an antibiotic, but at least i know what it is and get help for it as soon as i feel the first symptom.
Re: the constipation, i tried everything in the book...the only thing that helped me was to stew some prunes, and the trick was to eat them warm...yep...warm. That did it.

Good luck!!! and this too shall end!

I'm sorry you are in such
I'm sorry you are in such pain. I too have used the diaper rash meds, they seem to help. Would not recommend that you soak in a tub though, especially if you have a yeast infection. Nothing new to add, but letting the area get some air is a good thing. I wish you lots of luck, just be patient, this will pass. Hang in there!

I'm so sorry for the pain your going through. The advice that ladies all gave you sounds good. I didn't have any problems in the vj area but I do get constipated from the chemo. I drink lots of water try to eat lots of veggies, and the prunes help me also. Plus, I do use the stool softner. Hugs, Diane

I don't know Vicki but would
I don't know Vicki but would Desitin or Balmex work? After all we do use it on babies and kids for diaper rash. I don't think it would have any adverse side effects to try it and it may give you some relief. Also, you might want to try a natural laxative such as metamucil or citracel or even senokot tablets which are all natural to help with constipation. I had that problem and my oncologist recommended Senokot tablets. It worked within 24 hrs and then I took it while going through chemo. Hugs, Lili

    Not fun~!
Many of the side effects are so unpleasant....
I find that A & D ointment (often used for diaper rash) works well on my sore bottom during chemo. If you are having pain elsewhere (urinary/vsginal), a call to your MD is needed. Best of luck- Jane

    Hi VickiSam
I do homehealth care as an rn. If you have red irritated skin go pick up a cream called sensicare #3 protective barrier. Its a thick white cream. Its designed to apply like you are frosting a cake. We use it on patients with early bedsores and its a really good cream.

As far as constipation goes, think about getting some miralax powder. You put it in liquid and most of my homecare patients who are on heavy narcotics swear by it.

    Hang in there

    Helpful Treatments
    Vicki,
I am very sorry, however it common side effect.
I used Colace capsules as Stool Softener. When Colace did not help I used Fleet Glycerin Suppositories or
Fleet Pedia-Lax Liquid Glycerin Suppositories Laxative . For raw areas my doctor recommended Desitin or any other baby medicated ointment for diaper rash. It did help , but took several days.
    Hugs
