I posted before that i have swollen node in the groin and now in my neck. The onc nurse finally called me back today after i left two messages. She told me, well i dont think it is your breast cancer. UH DAH!!! I have no more breasts the swelling isnt there. I guess ill just try to get an answer from the onc on the 28th. But, did her answer make any sense to anyone, or is it just me? Im so aggravated. I want answers, the right answers. And i feel i should have more tests done... Sorry to fo on just venting.

    Hi laura
Hi laura, I am new here, but will add my 2 cents anyway. I seem to remember reading that if a cancer starts in the breast, and it travels to other areas of the body it is still considered breast cancer that metatisized (don't remember the word and how to spell it,) but it meant the cancer spread. So I would say the nurse means that she does not think the breast cancer went to the nodes that are swollen, so that is good news. However, am not sure how she can determine that over the phone, but she should know something about you and your condition. Call her back to explain more thoroughly. Best of luck to you, could you not get in to see anyone about this before the 28th, the wait and not knowing is what is so hard.

Okay she was most certainly not thinking with her good brain cells. I have been known to show up at my doctors office when I do not get the response or treatment I feel I should be getting. Come on now, it is not a cold or the flu we all have. If you live close enough I most certainly would go to the doctors office and request the nurse or someone look at it, you should not have to wait till the 28th if it is an infection you need to be on antibiotics pronto! Keep us posted on how this goes.

CR you have no idea how
CR you have no idea how ready i am to fight. I agree RE she has no right to diagnose me over the phone, especially since i have not had blood work ect. I am sooo sick of being pushed off by this dr and nurse. She told me there wasnt an appt until the 28th, im calling my family dr tomorrow. And when i go tuesday, watch out!!!

I think that it is a good
I think that it is a good idea to call your PCP. This should not wait until the 28th. As someone said if it is an infection it needs to be treated. And yes, on Tuesday you need to let them know how upsetting this telephone diagnosis was. Good thing they don't do their cancer diagnosing that way.

    Well, yes, it actually does
Well, yes, it actually does make sense... In a nutshell, Breast Cancer cells look different from "other cancer" cells~ and if BC metastacizes to say, our liver, as an example, it is BC cells which are found. Not that this is happening to you, and NO! Not that you aren't going to live for 100 years, but generally, if BC spreads from its primary site to another place in the body, even though it went to the bones, lungs, or liver, it is part of the Breast Cancer diagnosis. Or so I have been led to believe, anyway! I could be wrong; it wouldn't be the first time! LOL

    Are they kidding me?
Laura, as soon as you get this situation under control, I would seriously consider switching to an Oncologist that cares about you!! NONE of my team of 6 Doctor's would ever consider not seeing me the same day even if it is just to ease my mind!! Now either I have the most incredible team on earth (which I think I do cause I just LOVE them and I have even been given cell numbers!!) or you have managed to get the most inconsiderate Doctor I have ever heard of!! There are way more compasionate good Oncologist out there!!
How unethical to even make a diagnosis over the telephone (by a nurse at that!). Not all patients can acurately articulate their exact symptoms! I would be infuriated enough to report this Doctor to the state medical board. You should have been seen ASAP since having Cancer puts our health at risks. They always have slots to fit in emergancies!! And if none are left....stay after an extra 1/2 hour and earn your pay!!
Just the other day my hubby laughed his head off and then was in total awe that the doctor understood me when I was trying to explain my symptoms. I said something like "this part here (pointing) is painful when I do this particular movement (demonstration) when I'm in the middle of working on my thinga magiggy..." You get the point. When he was done repeating back to me what I had just said, only using intelligent words, I said "yep, exactly!!" No way would I have gotten that across over the phone.
Hang in there. Glad you are seeing your PCP. Be a pest everyday and eventually they will give in just to shut you up....but thats OK because YOU WON!! :) Pammy

I would be so upset if I was treated that way. I hope you were seen today and that all is OK. I agree with Pammy about considering switching to someone who takes you more seriously and compassionately.

My experience with my oncs is that I can call anytime and a nurse will call me back pronto if it is something potentially serious like swollen nodes. I live 1 1/2 hours from my cancer center, so just driving in any day is not an option. However, my primary care provider is my anchor and I can call or email her anytime, too. She is great.

    You definitely need to get
You definitely need to get in right away. Do what RE does, just show up. I would never stand to be treated like that. It could be nothing and it could be something.

Please let us know and get into a doctor tomorrow!!!!

    Laura, they should never
Laura, they should never blow you off. You have had cancer. You call them or go show up and demand for them to see you. And, be sure and let them know how that nurse on the phone was to you. That is awful. I will hold her down for you too. lol Just not right.

    Let us know! Hugs

I just cant win. I called my gp and he is out on wednesdays. So i get to wait another day. I am going crazy, probably over nothing, but i still am. I am just tired of not getting answers. The waiting and not knowing a darn thing sucks. I dont know what else to do.

    Laura,
Wow, that is so frustrating. But, take a deep breath. It's going to be OK. Start a calm, but persistent campaign now to get the care you pay for and deserve. Keep calling the docs and calmly insist on being seen right away. If they say there aren't any appointments; it's not serious, etc. Just authoritatively say, "this can't wait. I need to be seen ASAP." And keep at it. If you get nothing, do as RE says and show up. Don't worry about being a pest. You are the patient and you deserve care. Good luck.
