I am about to undergo the whipple procedure at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Balitmore, MD Aug. 10th to remove a 3.6cm mass in the head of the pancreas.

I had a biopsy done and it come back benign-in my home town--the surgeon at JH does not believe the results. He believes the whipple is the only way to go--what do you think ?

I have had three ct scans performed--all reveal the same thing--to complicate they found that I have sclerosing-mesenteritis--inflamation of blood vessels- I think the small intestine.

I am 79 years old, in great physical condition--wt. 165 lbs.

Did any of you experience any problems from your local Dr.s because you had the whipple done out state?

Vance30,
I'm not sure about your out of state question. But I had T3 pancreatic cancer in April of 2008. I was 48 years old. They had me do radiation and chemo before the surgery and chemo after the they removed one-third of my pancreas, six inches of intestine, gall bladder and seventeen lymph nodes. If I can help with any other questions you might have. I'll try to answer them as best I can. I am cancer free at this point. Still a few years left till I'm past the 5 year mark but, I plan on passing that mark with flying colors.

I'll keep you and your family in my prayers!

We are at Roswell in Buffalo right now, but they don't seem to want to do the whipple procedure on my mother, who is about to be 56. But it sounds a lot like what you had....
