Ok, serious people only.....I NEED to lose 10 lbs and within the next 6 weeks. Soooo, who would like to join the biggest loser with me for the next 6 weeks? We can share dieting tips and encourage each other. Of course this will be on the honor system. I really need to have a challenge here. So if you would like to join me (we are talking 1 1/2 lbs a week here), speak up. It will be fun to see who the biggest loser is!! :) Pammy

    Losing 10 pounds
Pammy, I've lost so much weight on the cancer diet, I can't be your diet partner. It's not a diet I would recommmend! But I am curious...what event is happening in 6 weeks? :) Lynn

    Pammy,
    I too have lost

    Pammy,
I too have lost weight since my diagnosis and I know it was due to nerves and food tasting awful after chemo so I'm sorry I can not join. Fruit, Veggies, Salads with low fat dressing (add chicken to fill you up) and exercise, try walking before a meal.
    I wish you luck!!!

    In 6 weeks....
In the next 6-8 weeks I will be having my ovaries removed and I was told that a common side effect of being thrown into menopause is weight gain (besides hotflashes, night sweats, etc). I have recently gained 10 lbs in the last 2 months. Partially from being inactive and partially from quitting smoking. Now I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but I am only 4'11" and it makes a huge difference on my body. Plus I feel very uncomfortable with the extra weight. So I would like to be at my ideal weight before surgery. Also, I have osteopenia, so extra weight is not good on my bones. It doesn't sound like a lot too lose, but I have failed miserably the last two weeks! I lost nothing! Boohoo....:) Pammy

    I'm 5'
I know what you mean about the impact of 10 pounds, being a person who does not put day to day stuff on the top shelf of cupboards. I was imagining a class reunion. Ovaries removed is a far cry from anything fun. Sorry. I also have osteopenia following chemo and the start of daily Arimidex. I take Boniva.

I'm sure someone is going to respond. Take care, Lynn

Sorry Pammy, I don't need to lose 10 lbs....
try 20. Oh my, to hear some of you ladies say you lost weight on the bc diet? I gained!, all through chemo and then after (can't even blame chemo for that).
So yes, I'm on board, but don't know if I can be as strong as the 50 footer, I want my booze for my Anniversary 8/7. And that will be Moopys last day of rads, so we need to celebrate that too!

I didn't imply at all that I am strong...if I were, I wouldn't have the 10 lbs to lose! Of course I will be celebrating with any and all of us! I wonder if wine can be considered one of the 5 fruits a day ...it is, after all made of grapes, isn't it?! Dang near health food! I'm sooooo there!

    Hugs,
    Claudia

Pammy, I would like to lose
Pammy, I would like to lose about 6 pounds that I have gained around my middle. I work out regularly and eat healthy, but I think I just eat too much! I have a big appetite and have trouble resisting seconds. Count me in! Eileen

I could stand to lose **
I could stand to lose ** pounds. Oh my I've been edited. Who could have done that? Must mean I am supposed to keep those pounds. Hee hee. I'm too attached to my extra pounds. Actually I have lost two pounds but it has taken forever. Six weeks wouldn't even be near enough time for me.

I need to lose ** pounds. Oh, I have been edited also. I have gained 17 lbs since this began and I was already immensely overweight so anything I lose would be good. So count me in. I have lost 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I cut out most all of the crappy food (fries, bread, starches, candy, ice cream) and am eating a bowl of cereal (high fiber) with 1/2 cup low fat milk and a piece of fruit for breakfast or 1 egg scrambled, 1 piece of toast lightly buttered and a piece of fruit for breakfast. Then celery with a touch of peanut butter for a mid morning snack. For lunch I have a half sandwich and fruit and salad and a glass of milk. For dinner 3 to 6 oz of meat, green veggies (broccoli, green beans, etc) sometimes a salad, glass of milk. I have an orange or another piece of fruit with carrots as a after dinner snack. Once a week I allow myself a treat, candy bar or ice cream or fruit with cool whip. If I stick to this (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't) I lose 1 to 2 lbs per week. I tend to eat a lot of the same meals because it is easy to follow. Hope this helps. I really want to lose ** lbs. Oh that darn editor's at it again.

    I want to say~~
~~count me in, but am afraid of failing. I only need to lose that set amount that most are being edited typing. I have set a goal for the first week of Dec. since we are going to mexico with 7 other couples. I want to feel good in a swim suit, ten pounds can add up on a short frame (5'3) I have the slimmest legs, and this little spare tire that i have written about before~along with my love of chocolate~~sigh~~ I currently put in 30-60 min a day on a treadmill, but my downfall is evenings and snacking. So, my strategy is to not eat after dinner. No more evening snacking. Small changes can add up to big ones (hopefully by Dec).
Please keep me encouraged. I've said I want to do this for about 4-5 years now....it's about time I did something and not just talk about it.

    LAST CALL....STARTS TOMORROW!!!
Great!! We have some players!! This will actually be interesting!! We can all do it!! We don't have to give our weight, just report gain or loss each week (I'll keep track). I'll ask for stats on Sundays. At the end of the six weeks, we will celebrate with the winner!! Maybe have a few checks in between to keep each other encouraged. ANYONE ELSE WANT TO JOIN? Te,he.....I would count wine as a fruit!! :) Pammy

    Count me in Pammy
I will try. I would like to lose 20 lbs. My Dr. told me to try the glysemic index diet..and that if i google it i would come up with alot of info. Needless to say i haven't done that yet, but i will and i still need to stock my kitchen with halthier foods. I have just been so tired from finishing rads, I've been eating whatever i or my hubbie finds to cook.
BTW why are they editing the # of lbs?

    I went from 128 to 153 after
I went from 128 to 153 after starting the hormone blockers. I have lost ~ 10 lbs lately due to being nauseous but have another 10 or so to go. I should keep a little weight as I have osteo and I would love to follow the advice of my doc friend who recommended pizza and beer LOL, but that's not part of the cancer diet. Gotta love her for it though!

What might be helpful to those who want to keep track and for good diet info is www.nutritiondata.com, you can track all your meals and get a daily total as well as a comprehensive view of all your nutrients.

    OK, 1 1/2 lbs a week, I'm in :)

Good luck to all of us.

I imply that you are strong Claudia warrior woman...
To hear all that you do, even when you are dizzy, itchy & scratchy (new group?), you go out and do amazing feats of physical prowess.

    I am in awe.

And 10 pounds to lose, per your doc maybe, but I bet your sweet Reggie doesn't think so.

and yes, I'm with you on that fruit (wine)! very healthy. Can I get away with that if I do Watermelon Sour shots? or Courvasier shots? (orange liquer)

Whatever works right? I will go for 10 too. make every pound count all!
