Just wanted to say welcome to the chemo party this week and hoping all that everyone joining this party this week (and for those next week) that all goes well. I know some of you have the same as I like Eric, Phil and Linda and others so good luck. Hoping the side effects are minimal for us all. At least we can say we aren't alone.

Hugs! Kim

My chemo party - Round 3 - begins next Tuesday.
My chemo party - Round 3 (Folfox)- begins next Tuesday. Just when I thought I was doing so well, the side effects got me. --- I guess I spoke too soon about Round #2 being good. I began feeling rough since the chemo pump removal on Thursday. I also had to have a new shot (Neulasta) due to low white blood cell count (which can put me at risk for infection). Now, it seems, I will have an injection of Neulasta after every cycle of chemo. This should help boost my white blood cell count and reduce my risk of infection. There is some bone pain associated with the shot.
Today, I feel much better. It is an up and down rollercoaster. That’s life in the fast lane. Ha. Ha.

    Chemo Round 2
My round 2 was the worst so far. I too have been getting sick after being disconnected. My platelet count and white blood count were really low this time but they haven't suggested the shot yet. Good luck to you next week and enjoy this week off.

    I'm in the party!
Got my chemo today and my pump to wear for 48 hours. My WBC and platelets were low but went up enough to get the chemo. Part of me wanted to postpone but since I got it I am glad I did. Only 4 more after this. They actually reduced mine a bit since my hands were cramping and my feet hurt pretty bad.

I was feeling okay until about 1 hour ago. I got VERY tired and that ugh feeling. I want an ice cold Dr Pepper so bad!!! But good ol Oxy will prevent that for a few days. The steriods make me a little ansy that's why I am still up and not in bed.

Good luck everyone!! If you get side effects post them because maybe we can get each other through them!

    Party on!!

How come we crave the things we can't have!!
I am craving cold cantelope and watermelon too!!! Oh and what I would give for an ice tea right now!!

My husband cracked open an ice cold beer last night....even though I am scared to drink anything right now i would have LOVED to taste it.

It is hot here in Kansas too. I don't want coffee or warm tea!

    Watermelon
I too have craved watermelon and I eat it everyday, even after the oxy. It bothers me a little but not enough to not eat it and I crack open that beer once in a while and sit out on the deck. I was really craving pop yesterday after chemo. I actually had two and coming right out of the fridge bothered me so I let it sit for a bit. I think it was the carbination I craved. I will also drink that crystal light which is good with luke cool water because it is flavored and not bad.

Linda did you start back up on the B6. I think that is really helping me.

Good luck to all and party hardy. Yeah right.

    yes - B6
I started back on the B6, B12 and L'Glutamine (a powder, I mix 1 teaspoon in a drink a day 2 times a day) so I hope all this helps. I just get to where I forget. I get tired of popping pills....

    Interesting - I have been
Interesting - I have been craving watermelon too. I wonder if our bodies are trying to tell us something. Is there something cancer patients need in it?
I am doing my chemo party right now.

My hubby is in the chemo
My hubby is in the chemo party now,he is in the 4th week of the 6 weeks,he is having 5-fu.Sometimes my hubby feels great, sometimes he feels totally down. But in all,he is doing better than my imagination.I am happy that we have done over half way.Since last week my hubby started to get a little diarrhea,so the dietian totally cut off the fruit part. Yesterday my hubby says he really wants some fruits, but I didn't give him any.Just this afternoon,I gave him a peach,I peeled the skin and cut the peach into small peices,my hubby ate all of it and he says it was tasty, and he feels he got a little energy from the peach.Anyway that was great!

    Watermelon & Cantaloupe
I have also been eating Watermelon everyday. It is so refreshing and it helps with pushing the liquids. It rarely bothers me to eat it but when it does I leave it sitting out for 15 min or put in the microwave to take the chill off. We had cantaloupe today too. It was so good - just tasted like I was healthier for eating it. ------- I sure can relate to everything being said here - the good and bad feelings etc. It feels great to hear these things from other people. --------- If I do not eat fresh fruit, I eat fruit cocktail in the can. It is better than no fruit at all and easier on the tummy.

    Salt
I have a terrible craving for salt too. I don't have the metallic taste, but I want salt on everything. I try to use sea salt and 1/2 salt and luckily my blood pressure is only 102 over 73. I always craved salt before but now nothing tastes good unless it has seasoning salt, onion salt, garlic salt or just plain salt. Anyone out there have this craving. Also hot sauce if it's not too hot on mexican food is another yummy favorite. Oh what chemo is doing to our tastebuds and everything else.

    Watermelon
I eat watermelon like crazy during my 3 chemo days. I don't drink a lot of water and this helps to flush the chemo out. I am doing the Folfiri. I mean a whole watermelon in 2 days.... I love it

Yes - salt and hot sauce!!
I have never salted my food...last night we had BBQ and fries and I loaded the salt on my fries. And mexican food, I can't get enough! The chips and sauce yummmmm!

I got a canteloupe today and I just sent my husband to the store for watermelon and peaches. I am craving peach pie!

I was 85 pounds when I started chemo....I am now 95. I am trying to get back to original 105. But at this rate I better watch it when I get there!

    Weight
You are very thin. Was it all caused from chemo and surgery or just your normal weight. I have lost 16 pounds. I was 136 now down to 120 and my surgeon wants me to gain 5 pounds in two months. Even chemo doctor said if I lose more weight they would have to adjust dosage on chemo. During chemo week I just have a hard time eating anything substantial so I lose a couple pounds then gain it back on last 4 days before chemo starts again. Eating good today though. I get disconnected tomorrow so that is when I start feeling bad. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the watermelon, cantalope and salt. Yummy for the peaches too. I have to cut the skins off everything though - bummer.

    Lost weight through surgeries....
and first round of chemo and radiation. I really started to loose it with the radiation because everything I ate went straight through. Then my 2 surgeries I really went down. I think I got to 83 or 85. So being back up to 95 is good. I looked awful at 85. But it is hard to eat trying to adjust to the new colostomy and then when I started to gain I had my liver resection. I am just trying to maintain during chemo. I am surprised I have had an appetite thouh the past 2 days.

I cut the skin off my fruit too. I just thought if I baked a pie the heat would take care of the skins. I actually got too tired to bake the pie.....I will do that tommorow. :-)

Just trying to get my daughter to bed so I can go to bed!!

    Watermelon
One of my favorites and didn't even try it until almost the end of post op chemo...I did have to eat it at room temp but didn't care at all, it was absolutely wonderful...I ate it until it almost made me sick. It runs through me pretty quick but with an ostomy I just slapped on a hefty garbage bag and had watermelon til my heart was content.........ahhh...Life is Soooo good.......LOL

Hoping that all goes well for this week's treatment. I seem to be either really tired and sick or doing ok. I just can't figure this chemo out. Last round I slept every day for about a week and was really sick to my stomach constantly. This last round (last week) I hadn't taken a nap, but still get nauseated after disconnect day for several days but this week is better.

Good luck to others taking chemo this week too.

Just seems to be a cycle.

    This round was tough
Last Thursday and friday I felt like someone kicked the crap out of me...so all I did was sleep. Then saturday I started to feel better.

My hands got really sore for a day too. Like they were burned. i think that is from the 5FU. I was able to drink a Dr Pepper today!

    Today Feeling OK
I was disconnected on Thursday and have felt sick to my stomach until today and even somewhat today but a lot better. I just have the hardest time eating much at all before getting so full or just wanting to get sick (even though I've never actually got sick yet), just feel like I could.

Glad you got your Dr. Pepper. You have all week to drink up now that you can drink. Today I held something cold and it bothered me a little, I was surprised because it never lasted this long and it's only once in awhile.

Have not had any problems with hands or feet so far being sore, but I have heard of that hand/foot syndrome.
